Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things Blu-ray

Led by a mean-spirited director, Alan (Alan Ormsby), a theater troupe travels by boat to a small island graveyard for buried criminals. Using a grimoire, Alan begins a séance to raise the dead. The group finds more than they bargained for when the dead return from their graves, forcing the troupe to take refuge in an old abandoned caretaker s house. Can they stay put until daylight against the undead onslaught, or do they flee into the pitch black night? Will anyone survive? ....Muhah hahahh!

I'd love all three of those, even if Ruby's overwrought histrionics often outweigh its effective atmospherics. Hopefully the encoding will be up to par.

Given VCI's history with the continuous use of the MPEG-2 codec, I wouldn't count on it. Maybe this will be the Blu-ray release that ushers them into the 21st century though? One can only hope.

That's what's so odd about this release -- the best available elements have always looked rather like shit. Unless they've pulled a Shock Waves and found a new print to work with, it will continue to look like shit, regardless of the format.

So I've got my fingers crossed, but don't get your hopes up.

They just did a nice new widescreen transfer for it, but dumped it on DVD only.

Is this the one where that guy takes the other kids/people to that house for some kind of game or exploration and he's really, really, reeeaaally annoying, and pretentious/snobby?

A group of filmmakers and actors, travel to some island, to film a horror movie. They accidentally conjure up the dead, and get eaten. Yes, the direct is really annoying. He even carries a corpse around, to everyone's chagrin. Well, except his loopy girlfriend.

It's actually a pretty good movie, with some creepy moments. It would be a great double feature, with House of Seven Corpses.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow looks good, but yeah, nothing else I've gotten from them really does.

Actually, you guys are right, DNOTS is the lone exception. I remember the folks who were restoring the film were posting progress reports, screencaps and other updates so this one is kind of an exception - VCI was acting solely as distributor. But, yeah, the PQ was outstanding. I'm rooting for VCI to have changed the tides and for their BD transfers for CSPWDT and Ruby to have nice PQ because both (and City of the Dead) deserve better treatment.

Ok then I'm thinking of the right movie, which means I won't be buying this one. That ass hat ruined the movie for me. I wanted that character tortured in the most gruesome way possible, he was that annoying to me. I kind of wish someone had warned me about him before I got around to watching this movie because I would have been prepared for it and maybe enjoyed the overall movie.

Well, he DOES get his at the end. One of the more creepy scenes in the movie.

The character is supposed to be annoying as written. That's part of the charm, I think. Not like it's a great performance but it is effective.

This film has never looked good on DVD so I expect the Blu will be a massive eyesore.

He wasn't even the most annoying character in the movie. There's one woman who spends the entire time hysterical, even before anything horror related happens. Alan Ormsby was actually one of the best parts of the movie because his performance was so hammy.

But the real problem with the movie is how slow it is. I love it, but almost nothing happens until the last 20 minutes. It at least makes me question if I care enough for a blu-ray copy.
