Ron Epstein (owner of Home Theater Forum):

"We are here at Cedia, and walking around the floor you get a very strong sense that Blu-Ray is about to make a huge launch.

There is obviously far more manufacturer support here for Blu-Ray than HD-DVD. Just about every display manufacturer is showing off Blu-Ray on their new projection equipment.

The demo material I have seen, most of it sourced from the Pioneer BDP-HD1, looks tremendous!

It's going to be an interesting showdown for sure!"

"We saw the Blu-Ray being played through the Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1 and it looked tremendous!

I would say it looked *as good* as HD-DVD.

Interesting....

Walking around this show I definately get the feeling that Blu-Ray is going to have a huge launch. There is much more of a Blu-Ray presence among manufacturers than HD-DVD. The stuff that is being displayed in Blu-Ray looks sensational."

"I have been watching a lot of Blu-Ray material being pumped through flagship 3-chip front projectors (such as the Sim2 and Sony VW50) onto large screens. Most of it has been animation that looks quite stunning. For me, the format looks as impressive as HD-DVD."

Man it looks like what i've been saying all along is comming to fruition, JTK has also been a big theorist of this as well...

4th quarter is going to be wicked for BD, HDDVD better have some serious tricks up their sleeves or it might be over before it even gets started.
Uh, perhaps I missed something?

What exactly is it in Ron Epstein's comments that would lead anyone to believe that the fourth quarter Blu-ray is going to launch a "shock and awe" campaign and be "wicked for BD"?

What exactly is it that is "coming to fruition" that Epstein's comments help prove?

Not trying to be difficult. I just don't get it.

People tend to see what they want to see in a report. Some people see some "Big Bang" that's supposed to happen and people will all of a sudden forget they have mortgages and bills and spend $1100 on a new HD movie player. Well hey...more power to them.

You're climbing on that high horse again...

Me personally: I hadn't even paid attention to Epstein's comments that much. I was referring to everything in general, ranging from IFA to CEDIA to the discs coming out, to the news about BD50 discs like Black Hawn Down coming out this year, etc. etc.

For me, when you add up that big picture, I see signs that the BDA COULD be ready to make big impact finally.

They certainly need to. There's really no excuses left for them not to.

If 4th quarter of this year comes and goes and the BDA hasn't taken a serious command in this "format war", if not putting a deathblow in and finishing it outright...they have only themselves to blame first and foremost, given all the support and resources at their command.

HD-DVD deserves credit for being a nice product despite the clunky players you have to use to get to it.

But let's be honest here: HD-DVD has been given a huge boost of luck and life that would not have had if the BDA had launched on all thrusters right from the get-go.

I personally do not believe HD-DVD would have survived lasd year's debacles of IFA, CEDIA, and CES of last year if the BDA had come out with nukes right from the get-go.

This thing could have been, and should have been, already done by now.

But it isn't.
