So this is only getting a limited theatrical release. Paramount decided to do a little "experiment" with this and Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, where they'll release them to On Demand services and such just 17 days after the theatre count drops below 300. The only major theatre chain that actually signed on to this deal was AMC. The others are, by and large, pissed at the threat to their release window, which they see as an attack on the theatrical exhibition model. As such, many are refusing to show it. The closest showing scheduled to me is an hour and a half's drive away.
The official website has a page where you can check to see if it's playing near you: http://www.paramountshowtimes.com/us...host-dimension |

It's still gonna be in over 1300 domestic theaters, so it's not a limited release (which I believe by definition is under 600 theaters), just fewer theaters than a lot of wide releases have (but seems to be in the same range as Green Inferno and It Follows at its widest expansion). I actually remember being surprised that the last PA movie, The Marked Ones, was in fewer theaters in my area than past films in the series, and the early list for Ghost Dimension seems similar in size locally, though I also wouldn't be surprised if the list now isn't every location (some theaters finalize their weekend schedule on like Wed.). |

The key difference between this and It Follows or the like is that it's not a theatre-by-theatre decision; it's chains. The only theatre chains playing the movie are AMC, Landmark, Showcase/National Amusements, and Alamo Drafthouse. The two largest cinema chains, Regal and Cinemark, along with many smaller ones like Carmike, are NOT playing the movie, period, in any of their locations. Since there are large pockets of population where the chains don't overlap, this effectively locks big blocks of the country out of seeing the movie (i.e., Faydar's 109 mile drive, or my need to drive halfway across the state). So unlike a normal "moderate" release, someone in an area with a lot of AMC/Showcases won't notice a difference, whereas people stuck with other chains all around them won't be able to go see it at all.

Still, as I said, quite possible the list up now is not every theater as I've often seen films get added to a theater's schedule a couple days prior to release. Hopefully, Paramount can make deals with small chains or independent theaters to fill gaps in areas dominated by one of the boycotting chains. |

Even at Universal Studios in Orlando (AMC), it's playing 3 times a day. The only other theater close is in Altamonte Springs (AMC) where it's playing 1 time a day. So even if it's being released in 1400 theaters, the showings are actually very low.

Thanks for posting this link. It's helpful. I've lucked out. The 3-D version is playing in three theaters within short driving distance of my new abode. I like this series and have gone to see each film a few times before buying the blu-rays. I don't see how Paramount could screw up the distribution of this franchise more effectively. They screwed up the last film's financial return as well. Not enough to stop this sequel, but the last one could have been a lot more profitable. |

This was really frustrating to watch but I'm not a fan of the series.
In fact, I haven't seen any of the other movies and I won't bother after seeing this one. I was under the impression that when they used the spirit cam the movie would switch to 3D but no. The 3D only kicked in when a ghost nasty would appear which didn't make much sense. The 3D would last for a few minutes and sometimes for a only a few seconds. What little 3D there was looked pretty good, just wished there would have been more of it. Nice depth and a few gimmicks. Mostly for die fans of the series, others beware. |

as to the movie itself - ugh... it felt like an extended 'Ghost Adventures' episode. The editing, I hated it with a passion, stop, film, abrupt stop, repeat. The jump scares were on auto-pilot and really were not surprising at all. |
