So let me see if I got this straight; Fox somehow acquired the Regency library and are going to be releasing titles that were originally owned and distributed by Warner (save for some they own by default)?
That's...that's insane . I just hope the original Warner logos are intact (sorry, I'm a guy who likes having his films with what they originally and presently have). Also kinda ironic considering Warner has a couple of Fox titles under their belt (though through their Turner, Morgan Creek, and HBO libraries). |

Though it is interesting how some Regency titles in recent years have been released by other distributors (Role Models, Noah, Aloha) without Fox having some rights (Guess Who? and The Fountain were distributed by Fox internationally while Columbia and Warner Bros. respectively handled those domestically). I guess that's where Milchan's 80% comes into play. |

I remember Warner Brothers was and may still be re-releasing titles in the Paramount catalog. The ones that I came across were all essentially identical releases except for a Warner Brothers logo near the UPC. Maybe that will be the same with Fox?

It's only $25 right now from Amazon if anyone wants it. I just ordered, just in case. To be clear, Devil's Advocate is not on that list and partially owned by Warner so it should be fine to wait on, correct?

In this case, the catalog of films is switching studios. But Warner might not simply hand over the blu-ray masters to be replicated by FOX - that remains to be seen. It actually seems unlikely Warner would just hand over the blu-ray master to be copied bit for bit - but Fox are releasing a bunch of these at once (which implies they were ready to go), so who knows... |

Independent studios change "alliances" all the time. Not surprising that when new deals are struck that re-releases happen. I mean we are talking an industry where Warner distributes Paramount's films (which just happened for blu-ray), Warner basically owns entire MGM catalog into perpetuity, MGM doesn't own much of anything from their own catalog - but controls United Artists and a bunch of other independents, Universal owns Paramount's early catalog, Lionsgate distributes Studiocanal, Disney owns Lucasfilms, but Fox still owns Star Wars OT. That's just a sampling of the "insane" arrangements in the U.S. |

Warner distributes a fair amount of product from other companies they don't actually own, but merely distribute -- Alcon being another one. This Blade Runner sequel is actually being made by Alcon, not WB -- WB is only distributing it. Someday years from now if Alcon leaves WB, they'd take the movie with them like Regency did with their catalog (unless WB is co financing it which I don't believe they are). Quote:

Role Models isn't a Regency film. Unless you mean something other than the 2008 David Wain movie.
A couple of other relatively high profile examples of this is Marvel's jump from Paramount to Disney, and DreamWorks' Animation's jump from Paramount to 20th Century Fox (the latter was so subtle I hardly noticed it had happened). |

This could have been a case where the project began at Fox and Regency handled some pre-production but it was placed into turnaround. |

I guess I'm just use to films being owned by the original distributor. You're right, it changes though; Warner owns the pre-86 MGM catalog, Universal owns a selection of the Paramount library, even Disney has 2 ITC titles (The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper), 4 Paramount titles, and in 2020, 5 Fox titles. |
