I'm very excited for this! I really dug The Witch and the idea of vampire flick rooted in folk lore ironically seems really fresh. I have yet to see Herzog's Nosferatu, but after seeing the original for the first time last year, I thought it was great and has aged better than the original Dracula.

Nosferatu is Dracula by another name. So, we're going to get another Dracula movie, but one that just like the original Nosferatu that wants to pretend it's not a Dracula movie -- but it's a Dracula movie.

Yeah, OK... I like most Dracula movies so there's always room for one more. Bring it on. If it sucks, well, that's its nature.

I think he's working on a Rasputin miniseries, so he put Nosferatu on the back burner for now. We're getting a remake by David Lee Fisher next year with Doug Jones as Count Orlok.

I don't mind it getting remade, but no one will ever be able to pull it off like Max Schreck or Murnau. Kinksi was alright and Dafoe was amazing, but it's just not Max.

With Herzog's version, it felt depressing instead of supernatural. Don't get me wrong, I'm a proud fan of it and own a few copies, but it's definitely different than the original. Popol Vuh gave it a great soundtrack to go along with it. I would've given the characters their 1922 names, but Dracula was in the public domain 1979. I call Kinski Orlok anyway. The ending to the Herzog version is much more tragic than Murnau's.

I loved Shadow Of The Vampire. I'm a little bummed that it didn't get more than two Oscar nominations or a win for Dafoe.

I think The Witch is one of the best horror films from the past couple of years. I'm excited for this announcement.

Agreed. And I'm glad to see Anya Taylor-Joy back working with Eggers again. She was great in The Witch. You know for an actress who only recently turned 21, she's had a rather interesting filmography.

I'm totally cool with this, this sounds good and fingers crossed for another great version of Nosferatu.

And is a sound and color version of a silent and black and white film really a remake? That seems to be stretching the meaning of the word pretty far.

There have been several sound remakes of silent films so this could still be considered a remake. All I ask is for it to be good.
if the type of atmosphere used in the original is used in this version, this could be a very creepy and frightening film.

If the director stays, I'll gladly give this remake a shot. The VVitch was fantastic.

This was already remade with Klaus Kinski, directed by Warner Herzog in 1979.

And then of course there was the movie about the making of the original, Shadow of a Vampire (2000) with William Dafoe as Max Schreck and John Malkovich as Murnau, which practically incorporated a remake of the entire original film.

Between the original and those, I don't think it needs to be remade again. I'd rather see a completely new imaginative take on a vampire story, although that would admittedly be hard to do considering how many vampire movies there has been.

But they'll make it anyway, it will disappear from theaters in two weeks, showing up on home video a few months later, where it will be largely ignored.

Well, I will watch the original on YouTube and think about the remake, although I loved The Witch.

Nothing in The VVitch indicates that Eggers is a hack who is going to make something so disposable.

Colour has nothing to do with it but silents and talkies are not really comparable. Two different mediums.

There is a predictable knee-jerk reaction to remakes now, but we have to differentiate between a talented director remaking a film because it poses an artistic challenge and Michael Bay's sausage factory of crappy horror remakes.
Well, yeah, I agree. Not all remakes are bad. Many are uneccessary but thats subjective I suppose. This is a case of a worthy remake because the original is ancient and most people dont know anything about it. Compare that to remakes of films that are barely 10 years old like Spiderman or remakes that were completely bogus like Ghostbusters. There are many more examples but you get the idea.

I loved The Witch and I have zero knowledge about the original so Im down for this.

Not sure how I feel about this, considering Herzog beautifully remade the film (to the point that I believe it is one of the few remakes that surpasses the original) and Shadow of the Vampire covered all the other bases.

Still, we'll see.

I doubt any kids even watched The VVitch, Mr. Adult.
