He's a self-confessed workaholic and he likes to act in the kind of trashy films he grew up with.
It's the same reason Jeremy Irons sometimes ends up in really bad films, he once did a Uwe Boll film because he never played a vampire before and that trashy tax-loophole film gave him the chance.

But that's not him as a person I think. People don't say, "Sam Jackson plays characters that are badass," they say, "Sam Jackson is a badass" as if he walks around on set saying to various crew members, "Motherf-----, don't eyeball me!" I don't know, he might do that, I'm not sure.

Most of the time the films I've seen Samuel L Jackson in, I've enjoyed.
In my film collection he's in and would like to see him appear in more films.

But seriously, as many others have already said, he just loves to be working. Good on him. I'm glad whenever he shows up in something. He's a very good actor, and can be a lot of fun too in some of the sillier roles.

SLJ is a pretty smart dude as well. When Marvel stole his image for The Ultimates mini series some years back his agent and attorney wanted to sue Marvel. He was totally cool with what Marvel did (also didn't hurt that the new Nick Fury was a bad ass as well).

That goodwill has now paid huge dividends, since Marvel started making their own movies, to the tune of untold millions of dollars for SLJ (salary, merchandising, points on his Marvel movie appearances, etc.)
