Disney for the most part does not give out numbers. So we will most likely not know. Those in the industry that pay for the numbers should know but they cannot say.

Being the Purple fellow I am, I bought both. I like both movies for very different reasons, and many people hate them just as equally.

Here's my pitiful take. I'll give overall PQ to Transformers, but AQ goes to POTC- AWE. Some of the darker scenes had too much film grain in them for my tastes. ( some people like this fact. True-er to the film stock look. I know I'll be argued with on this one, but those scenes stuck out too obviously.) With POTC, the sound was fantastic Home Demo stuff. Worth it just for the sound.

For special Features... I'd give this one a tie. My only complaint about POTC was the lack of a director's commentary. My only complaint about Transformers WAS the director commentary. ( Bay came off as a total A$$-hat)

In the end, one of these movies has staying power, one doesn't. One movie is iconic for all ages, one is a flash in the pan.

For my money Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End will sell more copies over the long haul, because people will always want to revisit these characters and their world.

Blu-Ray for the win!

Yep. At World's End was on 7,000 screens worldwide and appeals to a wide demographic, whereas Superbad was on roughly 3,500 and mostly limited to US and UK. Pirates 3 wasn't received very well at all, and I suspect that will translate into less than stellar HDM sales.

I don't see it beating transfers. I am most interested though in if we can beat out the red team on the HP movies this week. That will be a true test, toe to toe.

since no one knows the real transformers numbers, we'll never know. However first week pirates will definitely beat trans. Because pirates is selling at a better time(near christmas) and there's a lot more bluray buyers than hddud buyers.

Shit lfodh sold 100k cuz of christmas sales, so imagine this movie.

Waiting, waiting, waiting ...

i dont know if it did. But I do know we got more physical copies in at target for pirates. 1050 as opposed to 750ish for transformers

why the hate for AWE?
I loved it more than the first two. I enjoyed all the doublecrossing and every scene with geoffrey rush. I thought it was better than transformers, spidey 3, harry potter, and die hard. to each his own. It deserves to sell more than transformers.

the only reason i would think it would beat transformers is because a lot more people have blu ray than HDDUD. Even if half the people who have blu get AWE that should beat transformers

It'd be nice, granted, but it won't. Bottom line.

(for the record, if for some reason it beats Transformers even by .001%, I'll gladly eat my words )
Why wouldn't it beat transformers? Heck didn't Live Free Die Hard almost beat it? Spider-man 3 already beat it.

We are talking about the REAL numbers not some fluffed up numbers from Paramount where they said they sold 190k the first 6 days right? Everything I saw said it only sold 115k that first week. Judging by the fact the first two have sold over 70k each (I think), you honestly think it can't outsell Transformers first week of sales?

I'm pretty sure Trans beat Spidey and Die Hard didn't get anywhere near.

We just watched Transformers on regular DVD a couple nights ago.....never saw it in theaters and not to offend anyone who likes this movie, but it was pretty forgettable as far as I'm concerned.

when TF came out on HD-DVD, it was the biggest movie to come out for them in a bit...especially a new movie...

Pirates is not our best movie....we have a bunch of new blockbuster titles...not just 1...

the action was great....but the acting and storyline just seemed kinda whipped together..

Megatron was a Jet and couldn't catch up to the kid running on foot with the box?

"go on kid...you're a soldier now!"....yeah there's like 20 soldiers in the fight scene and they decide to leave it up to the kid?...

ehh...but I still enjoyed it and will buy it when it comes out on Blu because the action was great..

That isn't a valid metric right now. When TF came out the overall volume was extremely long and it was far easier to dominate the rankings. Now we are in the holiday swing with far greater volume and it will be impossible to dominate in the same way. The Amazon rankings do not necessarily mean that the nominal units will not be higher for POTC.
