who will make more sales combine in HD?
Sony has a pretty good advertising campaign setup for spidey3, i am sure disney will also. i think no match for these movies. Blu wins |

Hard to say. Transformers has a huge following of fans who tend to be hi-def owners. Spiderman 3 wasn't as big of a hit with the fans as 1 and 2 were. Bourne was an excellent movie, and surprised a lot of folks. Pirates 3 was also very good, and many will want it to complete their set.
All in all, it will come down to volume of players, and fans coming out to buy. I think Blu has the upper hand in movie support, which has been proven true in the last 12 months with near 2:1 sales vs HD |

I wish that I could be supportive of BLU on this matter but I really think that HD DVD will win this matchup on these two titles. I personally dont like the bourne movies but transformers was HUGE! I think that because of these 2 movies, HD DVD might win a combined total.
I know many people that liked transformers and Bourne. I also know that many people liked Spidey and Pirates. Even though I will buy both Spidey and Pirates, I do think that HDDVD will edge out on this one. ![]() Basically what that means is that I will need to buy extra blus to make sure that DUD will never beat blu ray on the neilsen stats. ![]() |

Spidey 3 --> Disappointing
POTC 3 --> Disappointing Shrek the Third --> Disappointing Ratatouille --> Surprising Bourne 3 --> Surprising Transformers --> Surprising With that said, I think Spidey 3 and Pirates 3 will outsell Bourne and Transformers simply because there are about 4-5 times more BR players out there [or something like that, can't remember the ratio of PS3's + SAL's to HD DVD players.] |

Sad thing is that I like both Transformers and Bourne better than Spiderman 3, and I skipped pirates 3 because I didn't like 2, but I love Blu-ray, so I pre-ordered the Spidey trilogy and I WILL NOT BUY a HD-DVD player or Bourne or Transformers HD-DVD. I will rent the DVD format from Netflix. Paramount and Universal will make a lot of money off me once they come back to the BLU....

Pirates 3 > Pirates 2 IMHO... Spidey 3 was annoying in how they handled the relationships etc. Bourne also made me kinda sick to my stomach with the jerky camera action in still scenes (you expect it in action scenes, not when trying to watch an unmoving object!)
If they were all being released on Blu-ray I would bet on Transformers winning.. however, with the disparity in number of players... I figure Pirates 3 will be the top seller. |

I think Transformers on DVD will win hands down.
![]() I'll pick "Transformers" and "Bourne" to win only because of all the raves I've heard from friends who I thought would've known better. I personally rate them as follows: "Bourne" - great movie I thought "Spiderman 3" - started well, ended not so well. "Transformers" - okay decent special effects, lame plot. "POTC 3" - blech I'd buy up "Bourne" and "Transformers" IF they had lossless audio tracks. I'll wait for the special edition versions which do include lossless audio - though I might be waiting a while, it may not happen until they appear on Blu-ray. |

Hate to say it, but i think HDDVD has that week down pack. I personnaly preffer both Bourne and Trans, even thought i haven't seen trans. Spiderman 3 was ok, and the pirates thing got old for me since 2. Haven't seen 3 so maybe i'll be surprise we shall see.

I think Spidy and POTC 3 will be victorious.
As mentioned previously, there are a lot more BD players out there than HD-DVD players, and I doubt that many people are going to dropping $400 on a new hd-dvd player so that they can see Transformers in high def. I actually think Paramount is going to be hurting this holiday season, because the pissed off BD owners are probably not going to buy the HD-DVD or DVD versions of their newest films out of protest. Also, even though some people didn't love Spidy 3, the 1-3 box set is more than enough of an incentive for me to preorder it. |

i think that blu will win simply because of the more players. out of the 4 I only didnt see bourne because I wasn't really impressed with the trilogy. out of the other three i liked transformers the best IMO. But I will be picking up both the spidey box set and the pirates movies. I can wait for transformers to come on blu but I'm not happy about it.

Doesn't bluray have a larger install base now?
Almost every blu owner will pick up Spidey or Pirates, or both. I'll just say Transformers was shit and leave it at that. HD doesn't have any titles that will endure the holidays. What I mean is that the few titles they do have will sell briskly for a couple weeks(that's being generous) then fall off the charts, a la 300. ![]() |
