Default Pirates can't catch Spidey

http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movi....ap/index.html

Pirates didn't sell as many tickets as Spidey did at opening, but it still did very well. The movie length (2 hours 45+ minutes) hurt it because screens were limited in how many showings per day. Also, there was about 17 million done in pre-screenings, which likely hindered opening day as well.

I would be surprised if Pirates 3 opened in as many theatres as Spidey 3.

Truthfully... who cares how it did next to Spider-Man? They're 2 different movies. They have 2 different run times. One is based on a comic book which will give it more of an audience there. It also started at 8 the day before where it made 14 mil. I don't get why people are comparing it to Spider-Man. To me it's pointless.

while i enjoyed both of them on opening night, i have to say POTC was better. they are both the two biggest movies of the year and both are blu-ray exclusive, which will crush HD DUD.

I liked Spidey way better than Pirates... but that's what makes movies great. We all have our favorites... as long as they all end up on Blu-ray, then YAY !

I'm just shocked at how many people care about either of these movies. They were both terrible! I nearly walked out of both, with Pirates completely pushing the envelope into the brink of ridiculous and nonsensical scenes right from the get-go.

I thought Spidey 3 was awesome. I haven't seen Pirates 3 as I don't go to the cinema very often.
1) My audio is better than any cinema I've ever been to
2) I don't crinkle wrappers and talk about every scene

Pirates 3 and Spidey 3, worldwide, are within a few million dollars of each other.

1 Spidey 3 Sony $879.0
2 Pirates 3 BV $872.9

3 Shrek the Third P/DW $479.0
4 300 WB $452.5
5 Wild Hogs BV $247.2
6 Ghost Rider Sony $228.2

7 Ocean's Thirteen WB $192.5
8 Mr. Bean's Holiday Uni. $184.0
9 Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Fox $159.0
10 Norbit P/DW $158.6
11 Meet the Robinsons BV $149.8
12 Music and Lyrics WB $145.3
13 Blades of Glory P/DW $137.4
14 Bridge to Terabithia BV $124.1
15 Knocked Up Uni. $110.9
16 Shooter Par. $94.3
17 TMNT WB $91.8
18 The Host Magn. $88.6
19 Disturbia P/DW $87.5
20 Epic Movie Fox $86.4

Huh? Try more like $44 million separate the two, and then there's Shrek the Third in between.

Where are you getting your numbers?
