I did not mean to judge you, but I honestly cannot tell if you are saying that you do or do not notice the 4% speedup. Either way, it doesn't seem to bother you, which is fine. That's your opinion of it.

Very good point, I hadn't thought of that! A huge number of American BDs are recycling fuzzy old HD masters from the DVD era, we're just lucky that they're still at 24fps, so they're better suited to BD.

Noticing and being bothered by are 2 completely different things.
Let's say it like this : I can spot a PAL-speed up disc like Cronenberg's Pathé whle watching it just at the tone of its opening logo, because of the wrong pitch.

Does that mean it's unwatachable ? Certainly not. It's actually the same masters other lables have used in other countries, but in 1080i50. There is no other differences.

The same goes for FVK, and even more Day for Night (because the HD master is better for the Truffaut).

Since the US are 24/23.976 fps due to NTSC, that's not a problem.

Luckily there's now a 24fps DAY FOR NIGHT Blu-Ray in the US from Criterion now. I really hope FVK gets revisited somewhere too at 24fps.

I definitely understand it's cheaper to produce a single 25fps HD master for use on BD, DVD and overseas TV, that's entirely what I object to, especially fro a major studio like Warner Brothers here, which should know better.

Oh, I definitely agree with you on that. It's a cheap trick that many small companies manage to avoid, so I don't know what some European labels keeps on doing it. It's the wrong speed, usually the wrong pitch too. It's not a proof of technical credibility from a label, that's for sure.

Exactly! That's the key question. Is this just a reissue of the old disc, as seems likely? In that case this thread should be merged into the existing one.

Or is this by some miracle a new, proper 1080p release? In which case I'll immediately order it.

Apparently the spanish release does not have the same hard sub issue. The reviews on the Amazon page are positive too.

Re this issue of hard subtitles. I thought I was stuck with some movies until my new Blu Ray player which asks me what position I'd like them in, so I've been able to move them down and off the screen. Give it a go.

is good with not forced subtitles and most important is a "pressed disc" not a bootleg bd-r how the before version, rear cover says zone ABC.

Is a 1080ì with 4% Pal speedup, but is a good update for DVD
