I said I personally found the disc "unwatchable" due to PAL-speedup. That's my opinion, not a lie. I did not mean to judge you, but I honestly cannot tell if you are saying that you do or do not notice the 4% speedup. Either way, it doesn't seem to bother you, which is fine. That's your opinion of it. Please notice that I have made every effort to say everything as politely as possible and I have never made a single negative personal comment about you. I have nothing to add beyond what I have said. Last edited by James Luckard; 09-17-2015 at 02:01 AM. |

Very good point, I hadn't thought of that! A huge number of American BDs are recycling fuzzy old HD masters from the DVD era, we're just lucky that they're still at 24fps, so they're better suited to BD.

Does anyone know how to merge this thread into the existing thread? Very confusing that we have two going at once, but I think whoever started the new one didn't know the lengthy old one existed, which is entirely understandable.

Let's say it like this : I can spot a PAL-speed up disc like Cronenberg's Pathé whle watching it just at the tone of its opening logo, because of the wrong pitch. Does that mean it's unwatachable ? Certainly not. It's actually the same masters other lables have used in other countries, but in 1080i50. There is no other differences. The same goes for FVK, and even more Day for Night (because the HD master is better for the Truffaut). You're highly generalising and like Alex wrote, it's very hurting to your arguments against 1080i50 BDs. However, like Bates said, many of the European 1080i50 are linked to indeed using old masters made at PAL speed. However, note that there are also more recent movies encoded at 25fps simply because it allows handling only 1 HD master rather than 2 (24fps and 25fps). Since the US are 24/23.976 fps due to NTSC, that's not a problem. We can thanks 50 Hz I guess... Alex, what's your store named ? |

I definitely understand it's cheaper to produce a single 25fps HD master for use on BD, DVD and overseas TV, that's entirely what I object to, especially fro a major studio like Warner Brothers here, which should know better. |

Oh, I definitely agree with you on that. It's a cheap trick that many small companies manage to avoid, so I don't know what some European labels keeps on doing it. It's the wrong speed, usually the wrong pitch too. It's not a proof of technical credibility from a label, that's for sure.

Or is this by some miracle a new, proper 1080p release? In which case I'll immediately order it. ![]() |

Apparently the spanish release does not have the same hard sub issue. The reviews on the Amazon page are positive too.
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-F...lu-ray/143963/ *edit, it is a BDR (at least according to amazon sp, the UK site reviews are all positive)and even if it does not have the forced sub issue it is still probably not a good buy. Last edited by Ianzombie; 01-09-2016 at 09:19 PM. |

Hi to all,
if anyone is interested, the new spain edition by Reino of "The Fearless Vampire Killers" is good with not forced subtitles and most important is a "pressed disc" not a bootleg bd-r how the before version, rear cover says zone ABC. Is a 1080ì with 4% Pal speedup, but is a good update for DVD Review here: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film6/blu-r...rs_blu-ray.htm Amazon: https://www.amazon.es/Vampiros-Fearl...e+los+vampiros |

This seems right up Arrow's alley, but I'm not sure about their past relationship with Warner titles.
Doesn't the french blu have a new interview with Polanski? |
