Whoops! Let me re-phrase that. People will be camping out at retail stores to get FF XIII before launch date

For FF XI which is online only, be played via internet on the PS3? Not too long ago, I tried playing Madden 06 online using my PS3 but didn't work. Any suggestions on this?

I for one will not be camping out, nor will I be buying it. The changes to FFXII's battle system were to much for me to accept. It has completely strayed from the original ATB battle premise (which I loved). It felt more like an auto attack hack-and-slash. It did not 'feel' final fantasyish at all.

It is the first FF that I have never finished, and quit playing after 8 hours. Come on now, part of your battle system is to make automation even easier?

All of those who I've talked to that were FF fans, have said the same thing minus 1. None of us will be getting FF13 as Squenix has stated this is their new battle system from here on out.

I hate the new system so much, that if they put it in place of ATB during FF7/8 remakes, I will not buy them regardless of how great they once were.

Get the PC version, as you can bump up the resolution for textures quite a bit more than the PS2 so it looks a lot better.

Sorry that you will be missing out on FFXIII... I for one don't care what they do to change the battle system. I love the series and can't wait for the next one.

I've played the series 1 through 11, even so much as playing the fan translated NES games long after their time.

And yes it is a series, but it has shifted completely away from vital game mechanics that made it Final Fantasyish. Without Airships or Chocobo's, really 12 could have be titled completely different.

I'm sure many people will enjoy it, but I really think the 'best' Final Fantasy's came out when it wasn't so main stream.

I think that's your nostalgia talking.

Actually FF12 is the first installment of Final Fantasy that is definitively set in an established FF universe (Ivalice). It revisits and defines more of the world set up by Final Fantasy Tactics.

Nothing wrong if you don't like the game mechanics (I have some issues with them as well) but it's still very much a solid JRPG and a worthy entry in the Final Fantasy series. I happen to like the active battle system, since it's so very reminiscent of FF 11 Online (which I still play to this day). What really irked me more than anything else were the bland characterizations in the storyline, not the gameplay elements.

Perhaps it is nostalgia, but I really couldn't see 12 as a Final Fantasy game. The lack of ATB just really irked me. I think Square did it better before merging with Enix, again maybe nostalgia. I think the only familiar aspects of it was the Crystal Prelude title screen.

I played FF11 for quite a while (as I loved MMO's, playing EQ for 4 years, FF11 for two years, and EQ2 for about a year), but I'm really getting bored of them. I finally canceled my last MMO account last week. Now a days MMO's are just all the same old thing rehashed in different packages.

As far as the first one to take place in an established world, I think FFX-2 has that title being the first direct sequel set in a very established post-final summoning Spira. Also, the FFVII spin offs released came before 12, didn't they?

I was mostly talking about the core series, rather than the spinoffs (of which there are almost too many to count), but in that vein, yes, FFX-2 and FF7: Dirge of Cerberus do sort of revisit other FF universes, but those were more of a continuation to an existing storyline rather than being completely new stories set in the same universe.
