Loved it.

Come to think of it, I've liked everything I've seen with Elle Fanning.

So is Star Trek too (remember old Spock?), but it's not the point - the question is really did he make the new Star Trek better or the new Star Wars better or word it however you like but which one did he succeed at better?

That's the problem I have with many of his movies. They are just derivative... They take stuff that has been done well and more or less try to imitate it as closely as possible. Originality is not JJ's forte, imho.

Maybe they aren't meant to be the same, but to complement each other. Weird, I know. How does Lucas dare to not repeat himself? Creativity? Artistic freedom? Who needs that?

Super 8 is awful, chock-full of unearned emotional beats and too enamored with Amblin-era Spielberg to attempt anything unique.

Great cast of young actors, though.

Exactly. JJ can be a little too enamored of the style that other directors developed. Without industry connections, he might very well be making fan films today.

Whatever you want to call it, Lucas should have kept his "creative and artistic" prequels hanging on his own walls and not release them into the art galleries for everyone to see.

In that Force Awakens premier interview with Lucas, he did say he works on his own films in his spare time, but just for himself not for the public. Just like a true artist.

When I read that I had an image of George Lucas playing in a sandbox with action figures in my mind.

For the quality of The Force Awakens to be lower than Abrams two Star Trek films he would have had to use a shovel.

He only rebooted Star Trek. He continued Star Wars.

Haven't seen Star Wars yet, but even though I enjoyed the first Star Trek reboot, there's no denying he turned the classic franchise into an action flick. At no time was it ever a real Star Trek movie, don't even get me started on 'Into Darkness'.

So probably Star Wars.

Question is invalid by its own design.

Star Trek was a reboot that goes back and reinvents the story of the characters while overwriting the films that came before it. Star Wars is a sequel that does not change anything about the films that came before, but embraces those that came before and integrates those stories into the continuation of the character arcs.

Your query is... illogical.

Well, actually, if you considering tearing up the Chicago lakefront playing in a sandbox...

(and ftr I was very excited when we got the bid for the museum. my enthusiasm has waned (to say the least) after seeing the site and design proposals)

Why? Because you don't like them? Why should your subjective movie preferences condition the ability for others to see an artist's work?

Artists that show their work to the public are not true artists? What are they? Fake artists?
