Grow up. Obviously some folks don't care for Dennis Miller, but it doesn't call for some asinine comment. Granted, I would roll my eyes if Al Franken decided to give some press for Blu-Ray, but I wouldn't be here commenting about how he would make me switch to HD-DVD. To each his own, but like Al Franken, Miller has his share of followers and him mentioning Sony and Blu-Ray in a positive light is nothing but a good thing. Some people here need to learn to bite their tongue sometimes.

Imagine that. you felt it necessary to dedicate an entire hostile paragraph just to supporting Dennis Miller. lol. Some people here need to chill out.

Agree-- used to despise him for I thought tasteless attempts at humor, but since I found out we agree politically, I kind of like him. Either he's changed or I have. And he is brilliant.

Miller is a pompous ass, but that reminds me: Wasn't Dale Earnhardt Jr. supposed to be representing Blu-ray in ads? I haven't seen any if that's the case.

He's changed. He has gotten a lot more conservative in his political views.

I am not saying this is good or bad as I prefer to not engage in political discussions here.

Rick
That is quite an understatement. As a "raging lib" I think of Miller as a shill nothing more. In fact you can tell that he is now less creative and has to reach a lot more for his material.

Mr. Miller was known during the 1980/90s for comedy on Weekend Update on SNL.
Later it was for lousy football commentary.
The last few years it's for shilling a political view.

Blu-ray doesn't have a GD thing to do with politics.
Whoever hired him to sell BD should be drop-kicked to the parking lot.

i think someone should do a state by state study or poll to see which states are more red(hddvd) and which are more blue (blu ray) and see what the map looks like just for fun

Dennis Miller is an amazing person and actor. and the fact that he supports Blu-Ray makes me happy because i dont have any intention on going to Hd-Dvd like some of you have said on here about it disgusting you so much that you would go with hd-dvd. but for me i dont have any thoughts like that because anyone supporting Blu-ray no matter who they are is still a supporter and so we should support them for supporting Blu-Ray

Hah, well I read some article a while back that Seattle and San Francisco were the most red (as in HD-DVD) cities in the country. Obviously it's not some official study, but my experience here in Houston is that Blu is doing along the lines of double or triple of HD-DVD. In Sugarland, where I do most of my shopping, you are hard pressed to find any HD-DVD presence. I have literally seen a pallet of Blu-Ray players sell over the course of a week in BB's Magnolia section.

And I still don't see why people are all upset about Dennis Miller recommending Blu, aside from disagreeing with his political beliefs. Some of you have the attitude like "we don't want conservative folks talking about or buying our precious Blu, it's enough to make me want to go HD-DvD." Well face it, conservative people make up 50-51% of this country. If you want to win a format war, CLEARLY you need to advertising and appeal to all demographics. Whether you like his views or not, his advice will sell players. Every radio/TV personality, whether it be Oprah, Dennis Miller, Regis/Kelly, Jay Leno, or Al Franken, has a group of followers and religious viewers/listeners. Their advice, despite being hard to even get close to Oprah's proportions, WILL sell players.

Suck it up.....

Commenting only on the demographics (not the political beliefs themselves), there is no majority (i.e. >50%) political belief, but self-identified "conservatives" in the U.S. are a minority (around 30-35%), which is one reason why there are more registered Democrats in the U.S. (although the lead has shrank since the late 70s...with most of the changed voters registering as "independnets"). Otoh, self-described conservatives show up to vote in higher percentages (as do Republicans in general...probably riding the wave of the normally strong conservative turnout.

I don't care how you vote, but don't make up the data.

Agreed, and well said: we should welcome everyone to our "big-tent" Blu-ray format.

agreed,

Man when I started this thread i did not know this would be the debate it cause. I know some may or may not agree with him. That is ok. I am not asking any one to listen to conservative talk radio. I was only pointing out that he was advertising the BD player. WickyWoo stated he was reading a script. IMO that is ok. It is still getting the BD name out there. Belive it or not conservative talk radio has a huge audience and this is a demographic either has not been tapped into until now. I am on the road a lot going from job to job and this is the first time I have heard a BD advertisement on the rado (with exception of wal-mart, but they are doing both formats).

Another thing I have noticed a lot of these talk show hosts use the products they endorse. So, he could be potentially watching BD movies at home.
