Given that basically all these movies are dirt cheap on DVD its not like it's a big deal if I do end up double dipping anyways. Blu-ray has been out for 10 years now so I'm just going to accept the fact that not EVERY movie is going to even make it to Blu-ray. The same will be true for movies on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Has anyone else here just said screw it and picked up DVD versions of movies that they've been waiting for forever on Blu-ray?
Most of my must-have titles that aren't on blu, I already owned on DVD. I have bought a couple of DVDs since going to blu though, the most recent being Farewell, My Lovely, which was recently released on DVD by Shout Factory but not on blu. A movie will have to be really exceptional for me to get it on DVD these days though.

I sold all my DVDs years ago when I moved to Europe, but I have re-purchased quite a few that don't seem to have any BD release coming. Solaris, The Abyss, True Lies and Pink Cadillac are a few off the top of my head. Also since Enemy Mine was OOP on BD and the DVD was only a few bucks I grabbed Enemy Mine, and might do the same with Short Circuit now.

I find DVDs pretty watchable after about 5 minutes of adjustment.

I'm ok with having DVD versions of movies until they (if they ever) release on Blu-ray. It's not a giant deal to me.

Wasn't Haunted Honeymoon announced by Kino?

Non-anamorphic DVDs tend to be dated/poor transfers to begin with though, since they were released earlier on. Put your average non-anamorphic DVD next to an HD transfer on a dual layer DVD and the difference is pretty substantial.

Yeah, but they look like shit on HDTVs because all four sides of the screen have borders. Yes, there's the TV's "zoom" feature, but that doesn't always work properly on these DVDs. Was very disappointed to find out a recent DVD I purchased was non-anamorphic. I found it unwatchable and turned it right off.

Thankfully I only paid $1.

Couple of days back bought Panic room Super bit DVD. Waiting for this since years finally decided to pick DVD when I saw it on eBay for reasonable price. It's like 8 years last time I paid for DVD.

I still grab $1-2 used rental dvds to try some of the DTV horror which is so hit or miss. If I like it, then I can think about if it's worth $15-20 for the BD. If it's "ehh", then I'm only out a buck or 2. The difference between BD and dvd isn't gonna make me like or not like a movie.
Of course that only goes for about half of the cheap dvd's I pick up. The other half either aren't on BD at all, or only on more expensive imports.

I generally watch DVDs on a PC with VLC Media Player. Zoom always works perfectly and is adjustable.

I do that also. I have no problem watching DVDs at all. I know people that still buy & watch VHS also.

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but the price of DVDs has plummeted especially on the second hand market.

I am regularly buying $2.00 DVDs and $5.00 Blu-rays. This is almost as cheap as the raw media itself.

Not at all interested in a digital library (unless it comes for free).

I have been keeping track of what I have bought and sold over the last fifteen years and DVDs which I have sold for $5.00 or more, I am re-purchasing now for $2.00.

My fear is that a lot of these DVDs will be 'lost forever' because some are genuinely hard to find and I'm doubtful they will ever make it out on physical media again.

Not going as far back as VHS though. That's just crazy.

I have very few dvds left, but recently picked up all the Anthony Mann/James Stewart westerns that aren't on blu. was holding out and finally decided that life is short. Enjoyed watching them all again immensely- even though The Naked Spur is easily one of the worst dvd transfers I've ever seen.

I'm fighting the urge to pick up a craptastic transfer of The Hitcher (1986) on DvD. I recently watched this for the 1st time and would like to not have to watch on YouTube. I hear the DvD transfer is awful though
