A very long time given its a Studio Canal Vintage Classics type release. They are very loathe to discount the older film releases.

I have the disc and it's not a new restoration. It's a bit rough around the edges and the sound is quite hissy. It's probably the same as the American one.

The German release is the one to go for. It has all the extras of the much more expensive and RA locked US release. So the commentaries (obviously all in English) and a view other bits and pieces. Very nicely packaged in a jumbo case with slip box. Got cheap when Amazon.de had a promotion on Koch Media titles earlier this year.

This is from a review of the Studio Canal DVD, but since it has the same listed extras, I assume they are identical in content:

Quote:
Extras-wise, StudioCanal have laid on a lavish spread of talking head for aficionados. Author Michael B Druxman delivers a potted history of Rathbone’s colourful career and no less an authority than Sir Christopher Frayling gives us his thoughts on Holmes in a meaty forty-five minute dissection.

Do StudioCanal have the UK rights to all of the Rathbone/Bruce Holmes films? Because if so, it's fairly obvious after five years that they're not going to release any more on Blu-ray. I wonder if it would be possible for Indicator to do a box set of the series?

These films are public domain in the U.K. hence the various crappy DVDs over the years and doggy TV masters on obscure TV channels. The digital copies on iTunes and Amazon aren’t any better outside SC’s Hound.

Optimum (what is now SC) released the remastered prints on DVD.

As you say SC could have released the other films on BD but haven’t.

I have the German boxset which at times is much cheaper than buying from US, has the commentaries and is the remastered prints.

Do you have a link for the German set you own? I'm having trouble finding it on amazon.de.

This is the one you want. Is what I have as well.

Looking at the pricing on the database entry here (click the photo above) it may be OOP, or could be Amazon.de as with most other Amazon's not wanting to sell to foreigners these days.

I used to have the Optimum box, and now have the US set, but I would be willing to buy the films again if they had some decent new extras (which StudioCanal's Hound Of The Baskervilles did).

Thanks for your reply. It does indeed seem to be OOP. The standard set (without the 64 page booklet) as well.
However it seems that the Italian set is more or less identical, and that's only €20, so I might take a chance on that:

The Optimum set, as per the US Blu, licensed the UCLA restorations.

I got the Italian set in December for 20 euros. No brainer really. 7 discs for 14 films.

It states Special Collectors Edition across the front banner.

The German set is about 52 euros for an apparent used copy or 100 for a new 'un allegedly. That's shipped to UK or so it seems.

I see you're in Denmark so that's not going to work.

On the Italian boxset, Hound of the Baskervilles has an excellent commentary with Sherlock Holmes expert David S. Davies.
