But we haven't even gotten to lamenting how much the studios suck yet.

Now Free Birds, with a wide theatrical release in 3D, foregoes a 3D release entirely. Frozen, a major animation film, is now only available in 3D as a Walmart exclusive? This is a disturbing trend. It looks like 3D blu-rays are being phased out. I believe this because the availability and quantity of 3D lately has definitely been on the decline. It pisses me off too because I just paid off an expensive 3D TV.
I hear you Jay! I also don't like going to the theater, paying the price for 3D tickets, my daughter tellng me she wants to get the 3D blu comes out, AND DISNEY PULLS THIS CRAP!!

Current listings on Amazon for blu-ray and DVD of Frozen indicate it's in stock, shipping in 1-3 weeks.

Of course we know that's inaccurate, should be showing as pre-order.

With the 3D version going missing, release looks messed up.

Hopefully they don't pull another fiasco like the Oz Great And Powerful debacle.

I'll usually go to the theater to experience the giant screen and awesome sound and 3D first, then watch it on 3D blu ray if the 3D deliver3d. Just didn't get a chance to see this one yet.

Agreed. It's really early still.

Films such as Gravity help to prove 3D is more than just a gimmick and something that can enhance the experience, but those examples are too few and too far between. Really hoping this trend doesn't continue...
Alarming trend? What other movies would make it a trend besides Free Birds and, which other ones I'm interested?
It is odd that Amazon would pull an order due to a cancellation, but the movie is still in theaters and it's possible Disney was still working on a plan for the 3D release. Hopefully.

2013 was one of the best years for 3D theatrical movies, with a giant library of 3D titles in theaters and at home to pick from compared to the trickle of 3D back in 2010.

I hate to say I told you so. Remember when I said Free Birds having no 3D home version might be the start of some trend? People said on that thread, in effect, who cares about Free Birds not being in 3D!! Why should we petition? Now look what's happening. Frozen is following suit. Now the 3D version of Frozen, a major release and financial success I might add, is nowhere to be seen for preorder...even on Walmart's website. How many other subsequent releases are going to fall victim to this charade??? I tell you, we as a community need to band together and send a petition to Disney and other companies that the demand for 3D Blu-ray is still out there. What's potentially at stake is an end to the 3D Blu-ray medium here in the U.S. Now to those of you who don't care enough to be alarmed by this current trend or don't care enough about 3D in general, I'm not speaking to you. However, to my fellow 3D collectors and enthusiasts, we as a community need to band together and send a petition to these companies. I hate just being passive and allowing this bullshit to unfold. And as far as digital only 3D releases are concerned, that's bullshit too!!! I won't buy Free Birds, Frozen or any theatrically released 3D movie without the physical 3D Blu-ray version being sold at retail! Can't they just put a 3D option on the same Blu-ray as the 2D? I have several movies that combine the 3D/2D on one Blu-ray. I can't imagine that costing them too much more to produce. That way they're not leaving the 3D viewer niche demographic completely out in the cold.

Please find a petition forum where we can vote on something like this and I'll vote for Frozen on blu ray 3D, or someone can send an email to Disney to confirm their decision if it's in fact not going to be on blu ray 3D? Thanks.

If they're worried about lagging sales, maybe they should reconsider charging a default of $34.99 MSRP price on their 3D movies, which is a very high price for a single movie.

Where do we start!! I'm in. Jay your DEAD ON brother!! This is such a GREAT example of anti-consumer if I have ever seen it!! Started with the blu release of Oz The Great And Powerful. Then Iron Man 3D blu was INSANELY expensive on its debut. Now Disney is SHAFTING IT TO US AGAIN with the release of Frozen!!

I believe the site, hdroom, has commented saying that even though Frozen was a 3D theatrical release, Disney is opting NOT to release the 3D blu ray. Instead, the only way you can watch Frozen 3D at home is with Digital 3D which is a stream service set to debut in late February!!! If this does turn out to be true.....WE NEED to voice our displeasure in this to Disney....somehow, someway.

I want to OWN the 3D!! This is SUCH BULLSHIT!!

The one possible silver lining I believe in..in all this ****ED UP MESS (sorry..just really pissed at Disney)..is that titles like Wreck It Ralph, Monster University, and Brave...there 3D release versions are labeled the 'Ultimate Edition'...not the 'Collector's Edition'. Maybe were just getting a release date for the collectors edition and the ultimate edition has not been given a release date because its still early. Guy can hope right??

And I remember seeing the 3D trailer of Frozen on one of my 3D blus on my projector. Did not think that was the only time I would see it on 3D and on physical media even, lol

We need to email the home market distributors and let them know there is a demographic out there that still wants 3D entertainment at home. As I said, can't they just include a 3D option on one Blu-ray? Or would that require two much data on one Blu-ray disk? I think that's a persuasive argument we could use to convince them to give consumers at least the option to view movies in 3D. If all else fails, do you think a 3D Blu-ray version of these movies will continue to be produced internationally? I've read that 3D remains very popular in places like China. Is it popular in Europe too if I wanted to import?

I agree we need a formal petition. Or an online site where we can all sign it kind of like istandwithphil.com was for Duck Dynasty

i still think Frozen will have a 3D bluray release here in the states
Disney just dropped the ball in the roll out announcement
No reason why other regions would get the 3D bluray and the states would not
this is not like Shark Night being given the 3D shaft here in the states while other regions got it in 3D Blu.
Frozen is Walt Disney Feature Animations Highest grossing movie of all time (by the begining of the week it will be anyways) and is most likely going to be the first Walt Disney Feature Animation film to win the Best Animated Oscar.
the Majority of that box office was from 3D ticket sales.

Then you got ripped off. Their ad price was $26 or something close to that.

Yes as one of the posters above noted, according to this link Disney has simply decided not to release a 3d version

Disney can release Frozen in 3D blu...they are simply ignoring us and being greedy. There using Frozen as a way to introduce a new format Disney is introducing in late Feburary. They could include a 3D option on one blu-ray...sure!!! Not sure about 3D Blu's fate internationally.

Just PISS POOR treatment on Disney's part....onto the very consumers that MADE Disney what they are today and Frozen the big success it is

How do we email the home market distributors?

This would sound logical as a Disney market reason if true. Other international countries may possibly not have a ready infrastructure for a massive 3D download demand and therefore still need BD 3D media for playable access for the time being.

I agree with what Awil stated in the North American thread:

Strange, if Frozen 3D is entered in the cart it shows the price charged as $59.99 and the List: $45.99.
