IMO the movie is much better than the book.

Stephen King has this annoying thing that he wants to overly explain everything to the reader, up to a point where you think 'Yeah ok, I get it! i get it!!" That's the case with The Shining book too. King used it to battle his alcohol addiction demons, but that doesn't make for a very compelling story. And the ending is just dreadful. Kubrick understood this and only lifted the 'good' parts from the book and wrote his own version.

King doesn't like The Shining because the movie is about a haunted hotel and the alcohol abuse plays a minor part in it, while in the book it's vice versa. Kubrick rejecting his script probably didn't do any good either. I'm glad he did though, because King is an awful screenwriter.

I wonder if this will be presented as a sequel to the Shining film, with flashbacks, or any returning actors.

That'd be pretty impossible considering Kubricks film killed off a major character.

What actors? Nicholson's character died and he retired from acting years ago anyway, Shelley Duvall retired and is suffering from mental illness, and Danny Lloyd only appeared in the Shining as a child actor and didn't make a career out of it.

This is the reason I couldn't make it past book 3 in the dark tower series. My god he can go off on tangents. Movies help reel him in, a shame we'll never get a decent dark tower film or miniseries.

Pile of rubbish seems a tad harsh but I read a couple years ago now and I honestly can't remember anything about it.

I suspect it will take more of an 'inspired by' approach along the lines of the Hannibal series. The series was unambiguously a new retelling of events in the various books and wasn't slavishly tied to continuity but it did draw heavily on iconic imagery from the films.

If, for instance, there are any Overlook flashbacks I would expect them to look a lot like Kubrick's Overlook.

That's what I love about the Hannibal Lecter series. Each film feels very stand-alone. They should do the same with Doctor Sleep as well. Don't advertise it as a Shinning sequel, just like how The Silence of the Lambs wasn't advertised as a Manhunter sequel.

He took a break but Nicholson isn't retired. He is set to star in the English remake of Toni Erdmann. That said Kubrick's version of The Shining is great, it far exceeds the book IMO which was a bit boring. I might give this a look when released.

Did Gugino and Flanagan hit it off in Gerald's Game?

I can see her as Rose the Hat.

Though it will never happen, it would be funny and surprising for Nicholson making a cameo; not as Jack Torrence obviously, but playering any character in the film.

Not that excited since the book bored me to tears. A bunch of "vampires" crammed in an RV? No thanks.
