We'll keep physical media going all by ourselves, dammit. I don't do digital at all myself because I don't trust the files being around forever and the bitrate doesn't hold a candle to discs, so it doesn't suit me at all. Not to mention I watch all my movies on my TV, I don't like watching things on portable devices or a computer.

I can't say I read comics, I did give a few Cap ones a try after TWS, and they were cool, but I can't really get into the format itself. Plus there being so many comics and there being different runs etc just confuses the heck out of me. The Hot Toys are a bit rich for my blood, I just get the Funko Pops and Dorbz. But I do enjoy looking at them, they're so detailed and I've definitely been extremely tempted more than once to get one. But I've spent over $1000 on just my MCU BD collection, so I'll have to restrict myself to spending silly amounts of money on that.

I don't really have a lot of time to listen to commentaries now, but I'll always make exceptions for my favourite movies like the MCU ones or Star Wars. It really is sad how much the extra features for the MCU releases dropped off so steeply after IM and IM2, I get that they can't be bothered spending the money to create them with streaming taking off so much but when you look at the hours that other studios give their big movies, it's a bummer. Especially since Disney charge premium rates for not much extra content. I forgot about the Dr Strange preview as well, I'm looking forward to that too. Especially seeing it in IMAX, just the trailer was a feast for the eyes, I can't imagine how amazing it'll be to see the whole epic thing in it.

Oh, I thought you might've gotten the US review copy because of the lateness, but if they don't send it out locally until its actual release, that's so bizarre. Guess home video isn't too much of a priority for them. :/

Ohh absolutely we will!
Yep! Totally with you right there. Cannot do digital I want, for that exact reason. There's no guarantee on the longevity of your files. With physical you own the film, digital you're basically renting it for as long as the studio allows you the license. There's an expiry on everything.
It really is the next step in studios making sure you don't own their films. It's always been a problem for studios, many were so hesitant to produce VHS's of their most popular films because they didn't want them to be in the public hands and wanted to dictate when and how they watched them. With digital that's exactly what we're back to.
I refuse to watch a movie on anything other than my projector screen or a tv. Just can't do it. And it confuses the heck out of me why studios would try and push this whole "hey! You can watch this movie on your iPhone wherever you go now!" No thanks.
I've got Netflix, but seem to forget it's even there most of the time. I've mainly got it to watch a select few shows, like the Marvel stuff. Other than that, I buy everything.
I'll stick with physical until the very last day.

The comics are actually a bit of fun. I've been reading a few lines from the very beginning, moreso because I'm really interested in the backgrounds of the characters and discovering bits and pieces here and there which have quite obviously influenced the films quite heavily. It surprised me just how early on the characters started crossing-over into eachother's lines and how each character's arch could cross into another character's arch which could all be part of one massive arch. Even in the late 1960s - it's actually incredible. It's literally exactly what the films are doing and it makes you wonder why no one had this "shared cinematic universe" idea any sooner.
They do get a bit confusing after a while, the main runs went from the early 1960s til the 1990s. But since then there have been numerous archs, from anywhere between 200 to only 12 issues each. So it gets quite convoluted.
I'm interested in reading the Brubaker run of Cap / Winter Soldier because that's heavily what the current MCU Cap arch is based on. I'll get to yhat eventually.

Anyways. The Hot Toys are becoming a little too much for me now too, they're close to $100 dearer than when I started collecting a bit over a year ago. So I need to slow it down myself.
This is just one display in my collection. I have a few other displays with other characters - and one with another few Caps in it.

As for Disney home video in Aus. I get that feeling too. They go all out with cinema releases though, often holding screenings 2-7 days ahead of a film release.

Yep definitely, studios are desperate to have complete control over their films and must be ecstatic at streaming increasing in popularity so much, and people either don't know or don't really care about the restrictions that'll probably ending up hitting them some way in the future. Plus I just like being able to hold the product I bought, I also still buy CDs as well. And I can only watch things a certain number of times before I get a bit over it, so I always want to make sure it's in the best quality possible, so tiny screens is a no-no for me as well. I have a 46" plasma that looks amazing, why would I want to view something on a tablet or phone? Idgi. When TVs and prices come down I'll upgrade to 4K, but in NZ that'll probably be a couple of years away.

I read a bunch of Cap comics set after his death in Civil War when Bucky took over (which is the one you're talking about, no?), and some other ones I can't quite remember, and also a couple of Black Widow ones. I just can't get into them like I can the movies, but I've never been a comic reader anyway, so at least it's one less thing I have to worry about buying. Plus everyone online is so knowledgeable about the comics so I see them all talking about plotlines so get my info that way.

Honestly, I always liked TV so much more than movies because you get to know the characters better and can follow their development, which is why I love the MCU so much. Ironically I now don't keep up with many TV shows since I don't have the time or the energy, but the MCU fills that gap because it's basically like a show just without the 13-22 episode a year commitment. Some people use comparing the films to TV as an insult, but to me it's a huge compliment.

Holy crap, all those Hot Toys figures! That Avengers group is amazing, and I can see TWS ones in the bottom left (my #1 film of the MCU) and they also look brilliant. And I love the Gamora one as well, I've always been most tempted by her and Black Widow since I love their characters and their ones look great. That must've cost a fortune, they're used to be about NZ$400 here but they've also risen to between $500-$600 from looking at them online now and I just couldn't do it.

And so this isn't completely off-topic, here's a preview of the gag reel:

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Gag Reel Bloopers & Outtakes (2016) Marvel Movie HD - YouTube
Yep, physical products are my fave. Why I'm a sucker for steelbooks and such. I buy CDs too, so I've atleast got a hardcopy backup of my music...and vinyl too... But that's mainly for the novelty of the packaging really.

I'm dreading the upgrade to 4K, though I know it will happen soon enough. One thing's for sure, I'm not re-buying my entire collection again - just a select few. And I'll most likely pick up a few 4K discs here and there that interest me if they're cheaper, for future proofing, and watch the Blu in the meantime. Luckily nothing's really interested me so far.
Looking forward to Disney getting into 4K though. The Marvel and Star Wars films would be spectacular.

Yep, that's Brubaker's run. He worked on hundreds of issues that went right up to and through Civil War, the Death of Cap, the Winter Soldier arch / Bucky taking up the Cap mantle and then Cap Reborn. Certainly looks like the direction the MCU is taking coming out of Civil War.

Yep, I'm the same. I love the story and character development on TV and that's the strongest suit of the MCU. I just love the ingenuity of it all. TV is not what it used to be now that there's so much money being pumped into it. Bigger budgets, less episodes cutting out all the 'fat' of the old 24 episode seasons, and bigger stars. So it's certainly no insult.

Hehe thank you, I'm quite proud of my collection. There's a couple of us in this household who collect, so we kind of have a joint collection. And yes, it's certainly not been cheap, but I'm surprised to hear how expensive they are in NZ!! The most basic ones were about $250 when I started, they're closer to $300 now. The diecast Iron Men are around $400 (the last couple have been $500, but I couldn't fork out that much, a line has to be drawn somewhere.
Yess! The Gamora is fantastic - the whole Guardians line is.
Good spot with the WS figs. The Cap, Fury and Widow are WS, Coulson is Avengers and Maria Hill is AoU. Thrown them all together to make a SHIELD team-up.

I don't have Bucky yet, but the CW version is on order and he'll be in my "New Avengers" display next to the Avengers. I wanted an Avenger Bucky and not a villain Bucky. I did have WS Falcon at one point too. But I sold him and will replace him with the CW version, I prefer the more comic-accurate look.
I have about 3 more Caps + Steve on a higher shelf too... In front of an American flag of course.

Anyway. This really is getting OT haha.
Loving the blooper preview! Super pumped for this release. I don't think I have much on an work Monday morning, so I'm going to try and pop out around 10am

Yeah, steelbooks and slipcovers are my weakness, especially if the SB is WEA or slips have different covers available.

I'm definitely not upgrading even remotely everything when I move to 4K. For the MCU at this point I only have plans to rebuy the Cap films and the first Avengers, the rest will still be fine in 1080p. The new Star Wars trilogy is also a definite, the prequels are a hell no, and the OT is borderline. I've already bought Now You See Me in 4K (ironically I can't watch the regular BD since it's Region A locked and I don't have a region free player), and will also be picking up the sequel in 4K as well. But the MCU and now Star Wars are my two major franchise purchases at the moment, and who knows when Disney will get in on it.

TV has definitely changed since the MCU launched in 2008, it used to be seen as mostly lower quality outside of HBO and other cable networks, but now with shorter seasons becoming the norm even for network shows, and good ones being pumped out, the perception isn't what it used to be. But I've heard people use it as an insult and some aren't happy with the way the films aren't self-contained but instead designed to get you to see others, but I just can't be mad about it. I love all the things tying the MCU together and I see every film so it's not a big deal to me.

Things in NZ are always more expensive, sigh. The downside of a small and isolated country which combines to allow for little buying power unfortunately. Your Winter Soldier collection is awesome though, they all look badass. I really liked the look of the Winter Soldier and Falcon ones as well, and I didn't mind WS as a villain because he was extremely hot. It's good you're getting the new versions of both of them though, and their scenes together in CW were some of my faves. Do you have any Star Wars (I'm assuming yes), because I remember wanting the Captain Phasma one so bad.

Well there's no chance we'll get it early, when I talked with the guy he said they should get the shipment on Tuesday, so Wednesday morning it shall be for me. I can't wait to see the rest of the gag reel, I've already watched that clip at least 10 times. I love gag reels.

Don't get me started on slipcovers. I've had to painstakingly piece together my Disney animation bluray collection to make sure they've all got slips. I've paid stupid money just for slips before. I prefer not to think about it.

I'll probably upgrade my favourites, Iron Man, Winter Soldier, Avengers 1 and 2, Guardians, Ant-Man, Civil War. As for Star Wars... I'm a sucker for EVERY RELEASE EVER as long as there's new content. So I'd see myself upgrading the whole saga. Mind you, I saw 4K transfers of Good Bad and the Ugly and Raiders of the Lost Ark at the Astor Theatre and honestly couldn't tell any difference between them and a digital transfer or a large-format film print. I don't think anything before 2014ish, with the exception of animated titles, will really benefit in the long run.

Thing with tv now is that people prefer to sit and watch shit at home. It's why all the peanuts out there are happy with digital downloads and piracy. That's the one benefit the whole digital thing is, people's willingness to watch stuff at home - it's had a good impact on television shows.

Yeah, that's crazy. I'm guessing if the stuff is that expensive you're probably importing from us. Hot Toys are cheap as chips in Hong Kong. They become expensive because the HK producers sell to Sideshow in the US with an import fee, then Sideshow ships to Australia with another import fee and then we buy with a $70 to the wholesaler. So we're paying profit upon profit upon profit. I'm guessing it goes from us to you with yet another fee on top. Sigh.

Haha yes, definitely have some Star Wars ones. One last picture for you before it starts looking like I'm showing off...

I also have Vader with a couple of troopers. And Kylo, a first order trooper and Finn from TFA, waiting on Rey and BB8, which should be in the country within the next week or so. I passed on that awesome Phasma, sadly crossed that price threshold for me.

Gag reels are a favourite of mine. And I love that Marvel do them. So rare for a blockbuster film to sport something showing the silly side of the production. But, yet again, we're talking about Marvel here... The fun comic book franchise

I'm going to pop into my JB tomorrow afternoon and see if they have anything out, since they released Force Awakens on the Sunday before. If nothing, Monday morning it is.

Yes, it's sometimes best not to think about how much money you spend on things. Although I've kept a running tally of how much I've spent on blu-rays and a separate total for my MCU ones just to keep things in perspective. For just the five WS slipcovers I spent NZ$87 and I bought a copy of the US version with the 3D disc by itself for NZ$15 because I clearly have no self-control, so that's a total of over $100 just for slipcovers and one copy of the movie. For TWS in total I've spent $468 and my MCU collection overall is at about $1400 (that's including the films, 2 seasons of AoS and one of Agent Carter). Ok I wish I hadn't looked now, lol.

Yeah, it really depends on what kind of upgrade the 4K releases bring, if anything. Bare minimum would be the Cap films and the first Avengers still though, because they're my absolute favourites and as you can see above, I have no self-control when it comes to Cap especially.

That would make sense if things cost so much because we import them from Aussie. I have seen Hot Toys much cheaper online in various places including eBay, but I've never bought them because it'll just be another Funko Pops situation where I go crazy, and I need to not do that.

Nice Star Wars collection, and I like the sound of the ones you have on order as well. I've seen glamour shots of the Kylo Ren one online and didn't notice that it shows his face under the mask, but that would've been cool as well. And it's a pity Captain Phasma was too much because her one looks freaking amazing. I have the 3.75" and 12" toys of her since I'd never buy the Hot Toys one, so they'll have to do.

Bloopers are the best, especially with this cast since we know them so well, so it's fun to watch them mess up and having a good time. Especially during the serious scenes:

I'm bummed The Force Awakens didn't get one, that would've been hilarious.

And I'm torn between being sad you didn't get the CW BD yet because then you could post pics of the steelbook, and happy because I'd be super jealous of you until I get my copy on Wednesday.

Is the 3d version going to be a ripoff, like BvS, missing the extras.

Nope, should be exactly the same as it will include the 2D disc in the set

Really don't want to do a tally of all my blu-rays, again, we have a joint collection in this household and have 5 ikea cabinets (with extension units on top) filled top to bottom. We've actually just had to buy another one because we're running out of space. Suffice to say, my "collection" listed on my account here only covers a small selection of the collection.

Star Wars and Wizard of Oz and Disney have been the big cash-cows for me. Multiple copies of the trilogies, about 11 copies of Wizard of Oz... But they all offer something different and, like you, I look at it as buying collectibles instead of buying the movie over and over again.

Yeah, the Kylo Hot Toy has no face sculpt, just a mask. A little annoying, because the upcoming 1/4 scale has a face. But, I don't think I'd ever display him out of the mask, so it doesn't bother me too much. Phasma, I believe, is also a little off-scale (she's about the size of a Stormtroopeer from what I've seen), so that would be a killer for my OCD.

HAHAHA, well, just keep that jealousy reserved for tomorrow morning when I (hopefully) walk away from JB with the steelbook in hand

Aus release is Wednesday too, but JB have a habit of breaking embargo here.
Wonder why the NZ stores are so strict.

Damn, that's a lot of blus. I only have the ones listed in my profile, I went mad with DVDs and barely watched them, so I'm trying to avoid that with BDs.

At least those two ones you collect get different extras, it feels like it's worse I spend so much on MCU films because all the extras are exactly the same (and not a lot to start with, unfortunately).

It's so unfair. We got the movie released a week late and now they (will probably) get the blu-ray early as well. Australia sucks!

They are not breaking embargo, when they put out a title on Monday that is officially due out on the Wednesday, it's because they have permission from the distributor to do so.

Funny because when I spoke to the bloke on Wednesdwy at JB he said that "the official release is on Wednesday and it has a strict embargo on it so it probably won't be on shelves any earlier... But sometimes we do"

Obviously it's still gonna be on the shelves tomorrow.

Whenever I attend one of Disney's preview screenings they always mention the "review embargo". But guaranteed, that evening, or a few evenings before 'embargo lift', some media outlets will break it. They obviously don't give a shit and never do much about it.

We have been through this before. There is usually an embargo in place, late the week prior to release JB head office are informed whether they can or can't sell a title early on the Monday, and pass this info onto the stores. It's the distributors that break their own embargo. I don't simply speak to some random employee at JB, I speak to the right people that know me to find out the things I post.
