Australia Captain America: Civil War (31/08/16)

I was just on the Aussie JB Hi-Fi site and it looks like we're getting a few local releases for this.

Standard 2D version NZ
Standard 2D version AU:

3D version NZ
3D version AU:

Team Cap 2D NZ
Team Cap 2D AU

Team Iron Man 2D NZ
Team Iron Man 2D AU

JB Hi-Fi steelbook NZ

I can't find the Team Cap and Team IM versions on the NZ JB site, but they're available on Sanity and EzyDVD, so it doesn't look like a JB exclusive. Fingers crossed we get them in NZ though, I'll be picking up a Team Cap one whether I can get it here or if I have to order it online. Although it's a pity our ugly classification logo is infringing on Cap's shield.

They will. They'll do it once Phase III is complete.

Consumers deciding between standard-Blu and 4K means Marvel would be competing with themselves for sales. Rather than jump into something new, they'll wait and sell all the standard Blu's they can now, then once the Universe reboot takes place, release these in 4K, so you buy the entire collection again, in 4K.

4K is still relatively new. Plenty of life left in standard-Blu sales. A couple years down the road, 4K will be more mainstream, and the perfect time to pounce on the upgrading market.

You could just release both versions like warners is doing. I don't think it's hurting them at all really

Disney still hasn't even bothered with Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio on any of their releases (and this one is just DTS-HD 7.1 as usual), so it's no surprise they're so slow to get on the 4K bandwagon.

LOL! 4K literally just came out a few months ago in Australia.

Although people still complain about films not coming out on Blu-Ray instantly, so I guess it should be expected the 4K release date complaints should start coming in thick and fast now too.

How many films are out with DTSx too? like, a couple dozen?

Yeah it's a bit rare, I don't even have any discs with it, although I do plan to grab Crimson Peak and Ip Man 3 when the price drops. At least the local release of Ip Man 3 actually has it. I was going to search for an import, but now I've found out it is indeed on there, it's just not mentioned on the back cover.

Good news for Kiwis, we're also getting the Team Cap and IM versions of the 2D BD as well, they just went up on the JB site yesterday. I emailed in earlier this month and they said it was showing in their system, so I'd been checking every day to see when they got put up.

Looks like the JB steelbook is out of stock in Aussie though, when I was updating the links in the OP it wasn't there. Of course it's still on the NZ site.

So hoping I can get my hands on the steelbook at JB on release.

The Force Awakens steel sold out on the website for pre-orders but still saw a few kicking around stores for a week or two after release, so hopefully this is the same.

Do you think we'll have an early Monday release for this one?? Might pop out to the JB near work on Monday afternoon.

Man, I wish our stores here were slack in enforcing release dates, I want to get this on Monday, too. But I've taken the day off on Wednesday to go pick this up and watch it, so getting it too early would ruin that.

They had some Force Awakens steelbooks around stores for only a couple of days here, I went in at about 9:30am and there were several around so I had my pick. But they were all gone pretty quickly, hopefully you'll be able to get one easily. But if TFA was still around for a couple of weeks, you shouldn't have any problem.

Oohh awesome!! I've got the 3D order from Amazon as you know, but it's going to annoy me that it'll be on the market here for almost a month before I recieve that one. So, I'll happily buy one on release here too, and the steel seems the most enticing to me.

Really hope I can grab one! I think the $40 pricetag on the Force Awakens steel might have put off some in my local area, considering the standard release was almost half that. So, fingers crossed that it gets an early release and I can pop out Monday morning

Went into one of my local JB's this evening to suss out how many steels they'll be getting in. He said they have an allocation of 29, but will "probably be getting more".

I asked when they'd go on shelves and he said "it's released Wednesday but sometimes we get them on the shelves early, but this one will probably have a strict embargo on it"

... Not that that stopped them from putting Force Awakens on the shelves on the Sunday before release.

Anyway, I asked to make a pre-order just incase I missed out but the bloke tried to tell me the steelbook is DVD only (listed as DVD in the system) and the only blu versions are the Team Cap and Team Iron Man. I wasn't in the mood for an argument, so I walked out without a pre-order. I'll pop over during lunch break on Monday and see what they've got... Sounds like there should be quite a few knocking about.

I went to JB in Galeries Victoria to preorder on Monday ask for preorder and suddenly clerk asking which version. He might confuse with special edition and finally I preorder steelbook edition.

Lol, don't you love employees who are so frustrating like that? You know what you're talking about but they keep on insisting otherwise. But it sounds like you shouldn't have a problem getting one at least. Plus since there's several versions people will have more choices to go with.

This reminds me that I want to call JB up and see how many copies of the Team Cap version they'll be getting in, although I'll be there when it opens on Wednesday either way. I wonder if they're the only retailer getting it in NZ since I haven't seen it online at any other stores. Although there's not exactly a lot of them that sell blu-rays anymore, the only ones I can think of are The Warehouse and Mighty Ape, but there's nothing about the Team versions on either of their sites.

ETA: I just called them up and my local store said they're getting 30 copies of each team, so looks like I won't have a problem getting one.

Hahha Yess! Frustrating as hell. I've found myself arguing them on multiple ocasions... I must be that customer retail workers always complain about... And I was just really in no mood last evening for an argument. I can't even remember the last time I saw a steelbook on a DVD. In fact, did they ever do DVD steelbooks or just those hideous metal cases?

Yeah, I'd say I'll have a good chance of grabbing one up if I'm there in there sometime in the morning or early afternoon when I can quickly duck out of work.

I could imagine most people are going to go for the "Team Cap" if they go for one of the team covers, considering it's Cap's film. I imagine the Stark covers will stick around for a bit.
Just saw your edit - looks like you'll have no problem.

As far as I'm aware, here anyway, the team covers are JB exclusives. I haven't seen them on any foreign market either (though I could be wrong). The closest is the o-ring covers on Zavvi - wish ours came with slips like these, I'd be all over them. I try to order as little as possible with Zavvi, I've had almost nothing but trouble with them.

I have no clue about if they did actual steelbooks for DVDs, I haven't bought one in five years now, so idk what's even going on with them.

Well when I was looking around other retailers in Oz had the Team versions available including Sanity and EzyDVD, but for us no other place is showing. Maybe they're just being lazy though, because I can't even find a listing on The Warehouse site for any version, although there was one briefly last week that seems to have disappeared. I'll go with whichever store has the best price, or if they maybe have a poster or something.

And I already have that UK Team Cap version preordered, but with Amazon UK. When taking the VAT off it's basically just a few pence more when including shipping, plus it's not Zavvi.

Yeah, you're right actually - I just assumed that they were exclusives. And I assumed those O-rings were Zavvi exclusives. Looks like they're going all out with this release... and it looks like I haven't done proper research into this one hahaaa think I've just been set in my ways about trying to get as little copies as possible... and ignorance is bliss.

But - I'm set on this steelbook. I've been good and passed on all the Marvel steelbooks so far, but this one is awesome! and my fave film so far.
Plus, I NEEEED to watch it again and devour these special features ASAP! I don't mind double-dipping on this one.

Come to think of it, I'll probably be sent a review copy from Disney in a couple of weeks - most likely the 2D. Not sure what cover I'll be sent though...

Well that's fair enough, I'm a MCU and Cap fan first and foremost, so I've been obsessing over this release for months, although funnily enough, I didn't realise until last night that the US doesn't seem to be getting any Walmart slips, and that was only because someone posted about it on the US thread. But I was so caught up in whether we'd get the Team Cap version in NZ that it slipped my mind.

But since I'm such a big fan I always knew I'd be picking up multiple copies of this. I have been having second thoughts about my steelbook preorder with Zavvi, since I'll end up getting Novamedia releases and they all have the same SB inside, so it seems a little overkill to buy it separately. But at the same time I want it, so... idk.

I'm dying for the commentary tbh, I saw it so many times in theatres that I have a really good grip on how the whole thing worked, and I'm firmly Team Cap, so I want to hear what the writers and directors have to say about things. Their commentary for TWS was great, so I'm looking forward to it the most out of the extras, but at least they're overall halfway decent considering the paltry amount on TWS release.

Where do you get the review copy from if it's coming in a couple of weeks? The US?

And yeah, that UK version of the trilogy is epic, it comes in both 2D and 3D versions. But I already own 11 copies of TWS and 2 of TFA, and will buy who knows how many of CW, so I think I'll have to pass, lest I completely lose what little sanity I have remaining.

Haha that's hilarious! Honestly can't believe how much variety we're getting these days. They keep saying physical is dead, but it's striving better than ever it seems.

Next to Star Wars, I'd have to say that the MCU is my absolute favourite franchise ever. It's even got me reading comics, almost obsessively... Which I never thought I'd do... I'm buying TPB's every week now and trying to collect the classic lines in the "Epic" format. I've even had to get a Marvel Unlimited subscription to fill in the gaps between the Epics, which annoyingly for me aren't released chronologically.... That reminds me, I actually have to pay for my Unlimited renewal today
I feel like I've spent a fortune on comics alone in the last 12 months.

I'm also pretty obsessive about my Marvel Hot Toys... So, I have to draw the line somewhere. Sadly, that comes in the form of the actual film releases themselves. But I'll double dip here, and will prepare my wallet for the Phase 3 set down the line too.

Yes!! Super excited for the commentary. I didn't listen to commentaries for years, but I make the exception for Marvel and Star Wars. I'm really looking forward to the hour-ish long behind the scenes. I loved the in depth features on the first two Iron Man films, and have been disapointed since. So hopefully this is redeemable. Also pumped for the Doc Strange preview.

Nah, I get the review copies from Australia... But I use the term "review" or "preview" copy incredibly loosely... I get them directly from the girls in the Disney home video PR / media management team. Strangely, they don't recieve actual copies from the manufacturer until around release date themselves, so the review copies often go out after release. Which is incredibly odd.
On top of that, they're not even given 3D copies - I asked for one for Jungle Book for review since the US market didn't get one and was told they'd only have 2D copies to send out.
