Interesting that they're releasing this under the Archive Collection banner. I associate that with older pictures. Of the ones I've seen on DVD (like All Fall Down), they've been "Manufactured On Demand" and barest bones: no supplements, no main menu even (you put the disc in and the movie starts playing). Wonder if the DVD's supplements will be dropped.
Looks like this is the first Eastwood pic for Warner to release as an Archive Collection title, even though some prior releases are of movies much older than 1997. Wonder if this is due to poor sales of previous releases (granted, the situation is complicated by many of those being available in box sets only)? Last edited by Paul.R.S; 08-17-2016 at 07:36 PM. |

Coogan's Bluff and Play Misty were Universal.
The WB Archive titles are pressed discs and the technical specs on 50GB discs are usually maxed out. I prefer a WB Archive BLU to a full catalog release these days. Their standards are generally higher than main sell thru titles. I think for Midnight the info was that the DVD bonus features would be carried over in standard def. midnite.jpg Last edited by PowellPressburger; 08-17-2016 at 07:28 PM. |

Did a little research. Looks like Archive Collection perhaps ceased DVD releases in 2014 (at least that's the most recent date of a DVD release in the site's database; curiously, it's when they released the 1996 Crash on DVD only).
There are three movies (Fearless (Jeff Daniels), Hudsucker and Michael Collins) which had theatrical release in the 90s which are now on Archive Collection BD. According to other sites, there were no supplements on the Fearless or Hudsucker DVDs. And all of the DVD supps plus a new feature are on the Collins BD, the most recent release of the three. So that's a good sign. |

Thanks. Amended my post to make my point clearer.

Curious that Stealing and Doc DVDs don't appear to be in the site's database . . .? |

Warner Archive really just means "stuff that won't sell well enough to mass market a $10 disc in Best Buy." When Showdown in Little Tokyo is in your Warner Archive you certainly can't claim it's a position of merit or age.

So what you're telling us is that City Heat DOES fall into that category?

Maybe Doc Hollywood and My Favorite Year will be coming in the next 12 months to bluray. MFY was oop for a long time, and went DVD-R on the Archive earlier this summer. That was what happened to Victor/Victoria, after it went DVD-R for a while, it showed up on a WAC BD. (make sure you get the 2nd pressing for V/V) |

Nah, man, if you're talking the average joe these days, Kevin Spacey's name attracts a lot more interest than Reynolds. Frankly, Burt's a bit of a joke in a lot of people's eyes these days. My point though is that there seems to be no real correlation whatsoever between what is released on blu-ray via Warner Archive and what is released by the regular Warner channels.

This is great. I wish they'd release, "City Hall," as well, but there isn't even a "wish-list," page for that one.

It is going to be interesting to see what titles Columbia/Sony runs through their new 'manufactured on demand' line. Will it be as random as WAC?

I'd like to take this time to acknowledge the passing of legendary trans entertainer, Lady Chablis. She was featured in the film as The Lady Chablis. May the Good Lord welcome His daughter home with love and a warm embrace, and may she rest in eternal peace...

I was just at Deepdiscount to check out prices for upcoming releases as compared to Amazon, and I noticed that the BD of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil on the Deepdiscount listing states that it's "manufactured on demand."
http://www.deepdiscount.com/midnight...l/888574429829 This is a mistake I hope, correct? Warner Archive wouldn't suddenly do this without letting people know? The Amazon listing doesn't state anything relating to MOD so I assume it's a mistake on the part of Deepdiscount. Around $20 for a catalog title is a little expensive anyway, even though I'm paying the day one price since this has been at the top of my wishlist forever. But a MOD disc for $20 would change things for sure... |

Yeah, it's been asked a few times in the WAC thread. They press a smallish batch of discs, and when those sell out they press another batch. So that's why it's still considered manufactured on demand in the literal sense of the term, even though MOD is usually associated with recordable discs.
