And just like GoodFellas, I'm sure that Unforgiven is one of WBs top catalogue titles across all formats. In fact, of all the Eastwood catalogue, this is probably the best place to start UHD BD upgrades, not least because Eastwood himself can be present to approve/oversee the HDR upgrade, should he desire. I assume that the Dirty Harry films will be trickier in this regard, for several reasons.

We could make new threads for several other UHD releases here too otherwise.
This is the first UHD release that I know of for a catalog title without a 4k master on BD. Like I said, he is assuming the UHD listing is a sign the movie is being remastered for BD as well, and made a thread on that basis. He could be wrong, but I'm not sure why that is a big deal?

I didn't say it was a big deal, I just pointed out that it's a UHD release, and those belong in the UHD section.

Would rather the DP supervise, if he's alive/available. Hopefully they include some sort of retrospective/appreciation piece as a new bonus feature, similar to what will apparently be included for Heat. Assuming this comes with a remastered Blu-ray, I'll enjoy that til I upgrade to 4K. Will keep the new BD in my digibook

Warner is not going to be releasing any older catalog on Blu-ray without a new 4K remaster. This is a top tier catalog and one they would use to showcase the new format on what UHD BD can do for older catalog. It would be ironic though that the older movies are mostly 4k (or all 4k for that matter) and the newer ones mostly 2k.

This is one of my favorite movies. The replay value is off the charts, so glad this is coming to UHD BD.

I've never bought the current BD because it is said to be underwhelming. This new transfer was way, way overdue. I'm getting it if they release it on Blu-ray (nope, not planning on going UHD anytime soon).

Hope its not in a fancy packaging cos I would like to pop the disc into my bluray book packaging. the current/existing version of this film on BD needs to be relegated to the gutter due to its abysmal video and audio.

I wonder if they'll change the look of it (if it's a new scan from the negative they can make it look how they like). If Eastwood had made this about fifteen years later I'm sure it would have this drab look that he seems to like so much now. As it is, it's a beautifully photographed film, will Warner will leave it well alone, or will it be a new look?

Hopefully the DP will be involved to keep the original look intact.

I think it will mostly depend on how well a given title sold.

Good to see Warner doing another new transfer, hopefully it's as great as the Goodfellas release.

Now how about:

Batman (1989)
Gremlins
L.A Confidential
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Dog Day Afternoon
Scarecrow

& their Kubrick films

WB no longer controls L.A. Confidential. It would be with Fox now.

I figured since next year its the 25th Anniversary there would be a 4K remaster at some point.
