"See it in Real D 3D and IMAX".

No IMAX 3D?

The pedigree is there ... now if the *story* is there. I'm cautiously optimistic.

According to the end of the trailer here, 3D is confirmed in Blade Runner 2049.

I am not so impressed by this first trailer.

This 2nd trailer is mostly a collage of images, not revealing very much at all about the plot or characters other than what can be guessed. I will see it in 3D in theaters and hope it matches or exceeds the 3D scenery of Ghost in the Shell 3D, of which that movie reminds me of Blade Runner 1, with the cityscape scenery of the futuristic buildings and neon lights.

It won't. I didn't see anything in the trailer that indicates they gave a modicum of thought to even giving lip service to utilizing the advantages of the format. The hazy cinematography doesn't help either. I didn't notice even one shot that matched the crispness of the original. I'd actually prefer a conversion of that first film. It would be more effective, just as Jurassic Park had superior 3D over Jurassic World. (A byproduct of having superior filmmakers.)

There is more to discuss here than just Blade Runner, but thought I'd share this here:

"“We’re looking forward to playing fewer 3-D versions of films and more 2-D versions,” Foster added, mentioning that Warner Bros. “Blade Runner 2049” will be shown in 2-D exclusively at IMAX theaters when it opens in October."

I suggest the discussion around IMAX's move away from 3D continues here

Why would they be 'looking forward' to that? Strange thing to say. I will be looking forward to avoiding IMAX in the future then. Cheers lads.

I already started avoiding them once they went digital locally and the presentation went to crap, that and they added premium seating. They are asking $48 for a ticket to imax here. lol, not a chance, and no i'm not exaggerating that is really the price for a feature film now. Meanwhile I can see 2d and 3d films for $11 at a normal cinema, where the image isn't blurry, rather is nice and sharp and (usually) bright enough unlike imax.

The petty statement they have made make me want to avoid them even more now.

That just infuriates me. I cannot fathom why IMAX now want to kill off 3D.

Agreed. They want to be careful about pissing off tech enthusiasts.

I wouldn't be surprised if the director and cinematographer are pushing 2D as their preferred format for IMAX.

Sadly that seems to have happened already

http://collider.com/imax-2d-movies/

*Edit* didn't realize the news story had been posted already but it is a confirmed thing technically through Collider. I ****in hate they got Matt Goldberg to write the article since he is one of the biggest douchebags and haters of 3d in the world

IMAX website: https://www.imax.com/movies/blade-runner-2049

The IMAX release of Blade Runner 2049 will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of An IMAX 3D ExperienceŽ

It Seems like Dunkirk brought out the anti 3D nerds again. It's so ironic that this year my local IMAX theater has already started showing some 3D movies in 2D...... no wonder sales have declined , I have been going to more XD 3D showings lately because of it.

It strange that a relatively average 50m opening with Dunkirk would start all this 2D talk , I would have been waiting in line myself.... if it was in 3D !
