The theater I saw this in had it projected so dark that combined with the editing and incomprehensible story, I couldn't tell what the h**l was going on through most of the film.

This one will look much brighter on 3DTVs with a backlight option.
Cinemark has some of the brightest projection of 3D films, so I lucked out in the theater, but I agree, the film itself doesn't have a lot of lighting indoors. That reminds me a little of the dark silhouette war room scenes in Independence Day 2 3D, but here it's not as severe I felt.

This really sounds like a cinema issue. It is one reason I rarely see films in cinemas anymore. Even 2d films are frequently far to dim. I use to love going as well.

Yes, as you said, it does matter how the theater projects the brightness while maintaining the picture quality and contrast, for darker films with low lighting or natural lighting. The film is ultimately responsible for keeping things perceivable for the audience, and this film got it right for the most part, despite the low levels of lighting in some shots.

Agreed. I was disappointed in the brightness levels in theater presentations of Jungle Book and Star Trek Beyond. At home they both looked fine.

Star Trek Beyond still looks really dark at home, some scenes in particular are very underlit.

Agreed, especially when they're searching the ship in Star Trek Beyond. It reminds me of some of the old horror movies where they forgot to bring a light and are wandering through the nearly pitch black woods.

AC's lighting is better than that thankfully, and the 3D especially, being better than Beyond's 3D.

Honestly I think the issue may be your display device or calibration crushing the detail. You can argue they should be more aware of devices that struggle and crush blacks, but films are not made for ones tv. They are made for very different displays.

May I ask what tv/projector you have? For example on the panny ae8000 it struggles and huge amounts of detail are lost compared to on my vt60 in those scenes.

Finally saw this in 3D yesterday and it did not disappoint. Depth was constant and spacious (Leap of Faith in 3D FTW) and the movie itself is an excellent and faithful adaptation of the game. The only critique I would have is that
[Show spoiler]ironically the present day setting and characters are more developed than the past ones, which is weird because the games have done an excellent job of developing strong ancestral leads and it felt like Aguilar should've been another big one. I sense alot of deleted scenes lol

For Star Trek Beyond, the scene I mentioned would be when they're in the dark at night and searching the crashed ship on the ground for the box. That scene was just filmed too dark, with very low contrasts, in theaters. I haven't watched Beyond 3D at home yet because I was disappointed in the 3D and the movie while good, wasn't what I was hoping for after Star Trek Into Darkness, which was awesome IMO.

Sony Bravia 3D active, Vizio 3D Passive. Both are great IMO for darker films at home in 3D the way I have them set, but I'll keep your information in mind, thanks.

Cool. Glad you liked it and were able to still see it in 3D. Yeah, the 3D was really well done beyond my expectations.
The action also went beyond what I was expecting, really nicely done.
The story missed some key points that could've really helped it, but it was generally easy to follow compared to some of the things in the games.

saw this movie in 3d yesterday, the 3d looked good, i was impressed with the 3d.

what lend itself to the 3d really well is the action sequences, the 3d give the action sequences a massive boost, it enhanced the action sequences really well.

landscapes also look nice as well.

aerial and crane shots look nice as well.

as for the movie, I really enjoyed it, I don't really get the hate, I thought this movie is very, very underrated in my opinion.

Cool. Yeah, it's a generally entertaining action movie. I went in with low expectations, but still enjoyed it. The action scenes really helped along with the 3D.

the only downfall is that some scenes looked a bit dark, i wish they upped the brightness.
there was only one trailer in 3d, it was guardians of the galaxy vol. 2, the 3d in that trailer is very impressive, so crystal clear. the other trailers were in 2d.

A few scenes could use more brightness, yes, for more contrast.
Yeah, GOTG2's 3D trailer impresses each time I visit the 3D theater and it plays. I hope the rest of the film has that consistency of strong 3D.

Is the 3d in this film comparable to what is in the trailer for it? The trailers depth and use of 3d looks great.

Yes. That is what the 3D looks like in the Cinemark 3D theater. High medium to strong 3D and well done throughout for Assassin's Creed 3D.
Thanks for posting that 3D trailer, Suntory.

Awesome news, will be picking this up on 3d blu-ray. Enjoyed the film quite a bit and the 3d in that trailer would have enhanced the film massively.

Stereo D did a great job on the 3D conversion of Assassin's Creed 3D. This is what I was hoping for with Resident Evil Final Chapter, and was understandably disappointed in that movie's mild 3D conversion.
