This could have been a successful fully animated movie that has something to offer for every generation. But from the very beginning it was clear this would be a hybrid and I accepted that fact over time. It is what it is. To be honest, I think it looks OK. I was expecting so much worse, keeping things like hybrid Smurfs and above all Garfield 2 or Chipmunks in mind.

The first few seconds was fine.
Lush green landscape, Peter rabbit hopping around. Then the narration starts, sounds innocent enough. A rabbit named Peter. Who wears a blue jacket. So far so good. And no pants...oh shit. And then whole thing quickly went downhill. Until the screaming match between pig and what's his name? I don't know, don't care. Oh dear God. What the f... is this? |

Call me old-fashioned, but this looks awful.
If they wanted to do a film about an aggressive, rude farmyard animal, then at least do an original story. Don’t drag the beautiful, gentle stories of Beatrix Potter through the sewer. Yet another example of some of our fondest childhood memories being detonated in favour of mean-spirited gutter-humour. (See also Luke Skywalker’s degrading ‘milk supply’). A proper animated childrens’ film based on the stories of Beatrix Potter could be a wonderful film. A real antidote to the ‘Emoji Movie’ style garbage currently doing the rounds. Children would love it, adults would feel nostalgically warm. But no, they went for the easy buck. Artistically, creatively, morally bankrupt filmmaking. |

I'm not familiar with Peter Rabbit... but I get the feeling that if I was I'd be terribly upset at this film.
Origins aside, however, the trailer itself was amusing enough, in a goofy, undemanding sort of way. Animals getting one over on humans always gets my vote... and I enjoyed Paddington. |

Looks like Chipmunks level bullsh!t to me.... I can't stand this ongoing style of humor full of stupid pop culture references, lame sarcasm, deadpan condescending, and false confident posturing. They took a charming and classy children's book series and Americanized it in an attempt to make it "hip".
