According to MisterLime in the Kino thread they got the master this way from Fox, so I guess it was lazy master-ers?

If your TV or BD player have a "RGB Full" option just use that, will leave you with an accurate image. Raising gamma or lower brightness can also work but it's less exact.

I do it the old school way. I lower the brightness until I'm happy with it. I'm from the days when we used to adjust our tvs all the time to get the perfect image
