I enjoyed this film. I think it was hurt by the Pitt/Jolie cheating/break up thing. I wanted to see it in the theater, but I don't think it stayed very long and it never played the smaller, cheaper theater by me. I love the poster.

During the gun firing scene he asks her if she will be OK with using the gun during the mission and she says, "I would be okay if I had to use cutlery." I don't understand this comment. How would knives work in that situation? Unless it just means knives are more her specialty.

One thing that stood out to me was how blood kept pumping out of the head wounds during the assassination scene.

She's saying she's so good she could do it with cutlery, she doesn't even need a gun. This is her response to him questioning her ability.

What's up with the scene with Brad Pitt with his hand on his hip talking to the Brithish officer in the office? Very uncharacteristically Brad Pitt In the middle of watching this on rental. Might pick this up on 4K. We'll see. Has every element that I like in a film so far. Too bad that this movie broke up his marriage with Angelina, though. They made a great couple.

EDIT: Well.how things can change in the last half of a movie, folks! Really became a jumbled mess in the second half. Couldn't keep up with it. What a change of pace. It lost all momemtum and just threw it in at random. Crap I was hoping for a winner. I really like Brad Pitt and Marion Cottilard!

Hmmm can't say I remember the second half being significantly different from the first half. I liked the movie as a whole quite a lot.

Yeah, I think it was my brain that was a jumbled mess by the second half. Stay away from the Lagunitas Doppel Weisen I'll rewatch this using better judgment.

I liked the film, but I agree that the second half was weaker than the first. The pacing is what bothered me. The first half had a nice fluid pace then the film comes to a screeching halt after he gets married and then it crawls along until the last 20 minutes.

Well, maybe I can't be held entirely responsible for my own actions, then

I finally watched my copy of this and it just didn't carry the emotional heft I think they were going for (or that I was hoping for). It was pretty to look at, and that's about it.

Yeah, I felt similarly. I am going to keep it though so that I can watch the 4K version once I get a player.

Absolutely!

I blind-bought the 4K UHD when it came out. The visuals were incredible (except for the very first shot which looks insanely fake) but the story never pulled me in. This was primarily due to Brad Pitt (who I usually like) sleepwalking through the whole film. The love and torment he should have been exuding never came across. Plus, I didn't really get any sense of passion between him and Cotillard.

If you watch the making-of materials, everyone prasies the script and the chemistry between Pitt and Cotillard. Um...what?!

A really missed opportunity. A real shame because Hollywood doesn't often make these kind of "old style" war and romance movies anymore and something tells me that they won't again for a while.

I ended up selling the 4K UHD, but part of me does wish I had kept it to watch the time period so beautifully rendered on screen.

Can anyone figure out why Pitt looks different in this? Either they CGI'd his eye bags or he's had something done. He definitely does not look like his usual self of recent years and either the film makers have tried to make him look younger or it's something he's done himself. I kept waiting for an interview in the extras with Pitt to pop up so I could see his appearance there bit there were no interviews with him! Very strange.

Pitt has had work done over the years and it looks like he's had his eyes done before the film. There have been comments in the press that since recently he looks years younger. If actors don't overdo it the results can be pretty good and he appears to have a good surgeon.

Because it's Hollywood, where ageing is a crime.

I think he looks fine, the only thing which makes it obvious is that he looks younger than before. But it's far from a plastic surgery disaster.

Almost all of them do it, even many who you would think haven't. In most cases they get away with it, just some of them get hooked on cosmetic surgery and they end up overdoing it.

If anything the way he looks in Allied was pre-work, cuz I thought he looked older than usual. He looked surprisingly young in that GQ feature.

They need to take a leaf out of Tommy Lee Jones' book!

Unlike Pitt he never got cast for his good looks, he always was a character actor.

Pitt has been an established leading man for many years now though, no longer just cast for his looks. I think the issue is more that he still wants to play parts that are too young for him. Same thing with Cruise and Depp.

In watching Allied at no point was the movie suggesting to me that his character was in his early 50s. It seemed to be more a character in his late 30s or early 40s perhaps. I was thinking Pitt was a little old for the role.

Allied was definitely the first time I saw Pitt look plasticized. Same for Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher 2. It's such a shame.
