It's possible the home video distribution for Homecoming will be similar to the Paramount/Disney distribution deal for Avengers and Iron Man 3. Sony's name and logo will appear on everything but it's actually Disney handling everything.

Avengers and Iron Man 3 were actually released by Disney theatrically, and included the Paramount logo and piece of the box office to Paramount due to contracts. This film is being released by Sony (I know Kevin Feige confirmed that early on in production), and seems like it will be more in line with The Incredible Hulk which is the only previous MCU movie still not under Disney video.

BTW, while I always assumed theatrical and home distribution will be handled by Sony, there is more evidence of this. Regal is doing a promotion where one can own digital copies of four Sony Pictures by seeing them all in Regal theaters, and indeed Spidey is included with the group

I don't think Sony would give Disney the home video rights of Spider Man Homecoming I just can't see it.

That doesn't mean anything Spider Man Homecoming might be the same case as the Incredible Hulk Marvel produced and made it and Universal gets the distribution and home video rights I guess the same will apply to Spider Man Homecoming even though it's a different company and different situation.

That's what I meant? That Disney would handle the home distribution and put Sony's logo on them due to the contract

Well, even if Disney are releasing it on home video I'm assuming that Sony pushed for a 4K finish.

I'm certain Sony will control home video rights -- but I won't bet my avatar because I forgot how to change it. I'm old!

But as I said, those films were theatrically released by Disney. From the very first press release, it has been clear that Sony will be releasing this movie (Feige also confirmed it again during production), and this seems much more like an Incredible Hulk situation.

Literally has nothing to do with who is distributing Home video releases

No, but it isn't being released theatrically by Disney the way Avengers and Iron Man 3 were which is why I said that situation wasn't a good comparison. Plus, seem unlikely it would be part of the Sony Pictures digital copy promotion Regal is doing unless it's home release was being handled by Sony

This is 100% a Sony Home Video release.

They just announced a promotion where if you see 4 Sony movies in theaters, you get 4 Sony digital copies (UV) and 1000 bonus regal points.

I thought Best Buy was supposed to have some 4K UHD set of the 5 movies coming out around when the new movie released. I know they released a blu set today, but I assume they nixed the UHD set??? Or was it the typical internet BS as usual?? I just remember someone commenting about how he already had ASM2 on UHD and was angry about the double dip.. Maybe this set will come out when the new one is out on disc??

There's no "source" but Sony will be releasing this on Blu-ray AND 4K Blu. You can count on it.

Sony isn't pouring all of their resources into Spider man and letting Disney have home video rights. They still have the property like Fox has XMen. Disney got onboard to assist with this movie and they get to use Spidey in Avengers and elsewhere....but it's still Sony's deal and nothing has changed in the bottom line.

I'm fairly certain that theatrical distribution is being handled by RKO Radio Pictures Inc. and home video by Troma Entertainment.

Feige on how the deal with Sony was worked out:

Quote:
How the armies of lawyers for the two corporate behemoths, Disney-owned Marvel and Sony, ever reached an agreement in February 2015 might seem complicated. But Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says it actually was quite simple. "It really came down to me telling Amy in her office that I think the best thing for this character is: Sony has the rights, that's not changing," Feige recalls. "Have Sony pay for the movie, distribute the movie, market the movie. Just let us make the movie and incorporate him into our universe".

It's how it happened at all... Marvel simply said let us use him in our universe where the new character will get pushed in the massive franchise and you guys will benefit... It seems like it was purely fan driven to have him in the avengers and not a cash grab by Marvel. Pretty cool that they could do that.

It's not all magnanimous on their behalf, it's very much in Marvel's interest that their #1 character is not only represented in a popular solo film franchise - Sony having blown the ASM relaunch - but is also part of their wider MCU. Why? Marvel retained the merchandising rights to Spidey despite selling off the film rights back when they were just a struggling comic book publisher and an embryonic movie production outfit. So while Sony are free to keep all the proceeds from the movie which they paid for, the billion-dollar-baby that is Spidey merch can only get bigger off the back of a (hopefully) universally loved and acclaimed big-screen Spidey adventure.

Civil War which had a dozen heroes and IW which will have scores of heroes.

And Sony gets all the money and spits in their face every chance they get?

Should have just let them sink.
Well Sony also has to pay for Homecoming, so there's that.
