That would be awesome!

Just give the rights to Peter Jackson and let him go crazy with it...

Yep, unfortunately this story can't be told in a 2 or 3 hour movie. The novel is too rich with content for that. Just like LOTR.

I would agree with this if you said it right after he made LOTR. Not so much now...

I doubt they are planning just a single movie. Mostly every big-budget thing is a tentpole nowadays.

I would love to see Dune, Children of Dune and God, Emperor of Dune finally made into a proper series of films.

Hopefully it's a four hour film with an overture and intermission.

Above all, I hope it's weird and idiosyncratic.

I doubt that Denis would take on another big budget Sci-Fi he recently said that Blade Runner took a lot of him and now he thinks he needs to sleep for 2 months straight i know he wants to do next a more smaller film (write something) maybe a local project!!! Denis needs to come back home and work with our local talents! we miss his "Un 32 Aout Sur Terre" "Polytechnique" "Maelstrom"

This will need to be at least a trilogy. The book's far too dense and complex to be adapted into one film, heck even two films wouldn't cut it.

I quite like the David Lynch version for what it is but one of its biggest flaws was trying to squeeze it all into one film. It just didn't work.

The mini series was a noble attempt but I found it quite dull and boring. The Children Of Dune mini series was much better imo.

Denis will direct the reboot

Quote:
It’d been rumored for a while that Legendary Pictures had been courting Sicario and Arrival director Denis Villeneuve for their upcoming Dune reboot. Now in under 140 characters, Brian Herbert (son of Dune author Frank Herbert) has confirmed that the contracts have all been signed, and Villeneuve will be directing.
Quote:
Brian Herbert @DuneAuthor
It's official -- Legendary Pictures has signed the very talented Denis Villeneuve to direct the exciting new DUNE series film project.
12:02 AM - 1 Feb 2017
Quote:
Back in late November we’d reported on Legendary having secured the rights to the Dune series of novels from the Frank Herbert estate. The deal gives Legendary the option for both film and television rights worldwide. Brian’s tweet implies that Villeneuve will be attached to the film project, and we’ll keep an eye out for any news on around the TV front. It seems that studios are looking to go wider than a single format lately, with Lionsgate developing the Kingkiller Chronicles simultaneously for both TV an Film.

The Dune projects would be produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.

The property has been developed several times previously, with the 1984 David Lynch version being the most well known, with Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides.

Daaaaaaamn.

But then again, I've read the book, watched Lynch's Dune and the TV mini-series many times. I want more than the first book on film.

Pretty excited even though I haven't seen much of Villeneuve's work yet (this announcement will hasten rectifying that situation).

But what if it is poor? That is what I fear... but... No. I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I love the books, and I love the Lynch version despite its issues.

Not too familiar with the content but it's Villeneuve so I'm definitely in.
