Will PS3 output to 7.1? - Page 2 - Blu-ray Forum

I have that receiver too... I found out through this thread that I am unable to get 7.1 audio from my PS3 or anything really which is suprising since the box it came in advertised 7.1.... If you look earlier in this thread there are some recommendations as far as getting a receiver.. I ended up buying a Onkyo TX-SR605 and am waiting for it to come in the mail today

Well, someone was saying you could get 6.1 through digital optical. Now, the 7.1 is an added bonus for me so if I really can't get it, than I'll just use the optical. Currently, I'm using regular stereo connections to get 7.1 audio alone without surround sound. It sounds great that way too. I played [I]Live Free or Die Hard[I] and it sounded great. Truthfully, I haven't experienced true home theater surround sound and I would really just like some help with this.

I've also been at the end of this road and wanted to cooperate with this little cent. Apparently not ALL denon receivers with hdmi take advantage of it and are just passthrough-video only. Unlike the info found in the link for the avs forum, denon receivers having hdmi are not capable of using it for pcm multitrack.

I guess only 2108 and above are capable of this. Is that right?
