Hi guys, longtime lurker first time poster. I've had my PS3 since February and absolutely love it. I've amassed a collection of about 50 Blu-ray movies and have never had a problem playing any of them until last night, but for some reason the unit didn't put out a picture! I could hear all the sounds, but didn't see anything. I thought my HDMI cable went bad, so I changed it, same result. Hooked up some component cables, same result. I plugged in the AV cables and those worked, but I can't get an HD picture with this thing and I have no idea what would make this happen after working perfectly for 6 months. I didn't install yesterday's update yet, so it's no problem with that. My standalone upconverting DVD player and my HD cable box still work perfectly, so it's not the TV.
I called the customer service line this morning and the guy was mystified and wants me to send it back but I'm really worried. Anyone else had this happen? Thanks! |

never heard of this. have you tried plugging in another hd source into your tv. it could be the tv and not the ps3.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's something internal. I changed absolutely nothing between Monday and Tuesday. It just frustrates me that some people completely mistreat their systems and I've pampered mine like royalty.

It could be that somehow your output got switched to a higher rez than your TV will accept. I move my PS3 between 2 TVs, 1 of which is 1080p and the other is not. If I go straight from the 1080p TV and hook it up to the 1080i TV, I get the same problem that you are getting... blank screen. To make sure it doesn't happen, I have to set the rez down to 1080i or 720p while I am still hooked up to the better (1080p) TV. So if you have another TV, you might try that.

I feel your pain. My psps pixels went, my PS2 went when it first came out and a 360 broke twice on and twice on my bros and i had an elite break on me. I always took care of everything but sometimes you just get unlucky one or in my case many.

If there is no picture on the TV screen: Back to top
Check that the input mode of the TV is appropriate for the connector in use on the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. There may be a problem with the cable in use. Try using another cable that is compatible with the PLAYSTATION®3. If the video output settings on the PLAYSTATION®3 do not match those of the cable or TV in use, there may be no picture. If the screen goes blank, turn off the system. Then, with only the PLAYSTATION®3 and the TV connected, touch the system's power button for more than 5 seconds to turn the system back on. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution. http://www.us.playstation.com/suppor...ult.html#nopic |

This will probably do the trick whenever you switch Tv's the display setting will be different so this must be done. let us know how it works out. |

Hmm, that might be it. I didn't know that was an option that had to be specified. I'm at work right now but I'll try it when I get home. Thanks!

You set these options in the setting ssection of the menu under Display Settings. Take it to a freind's house where they have a TV that will accept all resolutions and set it up for HDMI output and 1080i rez... uncheck everything else since your TV seems picky. |

try somthing else with hdmi to the same input your ps3 is now in. see if it still happens. if it does, then you know its the input. If it works try unplugging the ps3 for a hour or so, or resetting the system. with no video you would with hdmi you would have to use the composit cables that come with it, but its somthing to try. also try differnt hdmi cable with ps3. do you have cats?? it is possible to break the video cables in the hdmi and not the audio. let me know how it goes.....
