I'm already replacing the movies I really like.

But it's going to be a while before all of them are released in Blu-ray, so I'm looking at this like a long-term process. And I'm still buying only those DVDs that I can't see coming to Blu-ray any time soon (like the Criterion and Masters of Cinema releases).

Hey,

I should go count but based on shelf space and previous count I would say I have about 500 DVDs. I've sold back at least 70 since I started buying Blu Ray and most of my Blu Rays are titles I owned already on DVD. I usually don't get much for selling them back at local shops, FYE, Newbury Comics and such.

Pretty much everything I still have I still want. So, I will rebuy any of them on Blu Ray. As soon as a Blu Ray gets announced I sell back the DVD. That kind of burned me on "The Fly" as then it got delayed twice and even when it did come out it was hard to find.

With nicer stuff like Lord of the Rings DVD's that I spent a fortune on,.. I may not be happy with what I could sell them back for so I may gift them to family. The big problem with that so far is no one has a Home Theater in my family yet but me.

I have over 1300 DVDs. 2/3 are horror/cult movies. Some of them are little known movies and got them on dvd only recently. A good bunch of them are very low budget and frankly won't benefit from HD. I suspect most won't be available on HD for 5-10 years IF they become available.

I will replace the ones that will benefit from HD as they become available.

I sold off the majority of my DVD collection two years ago (about 1200 titles or so). I am glad I did it when I was able to get top dollar for them on ebay. However, I just wish I had kept some of the titles I will find it nearly impossible to replace in the future.

I have already replaced 11, but I would also have to raplace such titles as:

LOTR
Star Wars
Gladiator
The Matrix
Aliens
Harry Potter and so on.

I'm guessing most people collect DVDs (like I do) and find that in point of fact they rarely watch them again. No point in replacing DVDs you aren't going to watch.

Out of my collection (about 800) there are probably 10% that I watch consistently -- either themed (seasonal) movies, or movies that guests request over and over. These for sure I'm trying to replace with BD. There are another 10% or so I consider "classics" that must be owned in the best format possible even if I only watch them once every few years (I haven't seen T2 now for going on 10 years but I jumped at buying it on BD because I am going to enjoy it all over again).

Due to the fine job the PS3 does upscaling I don't feel an enormous pressure to replace the rest of my collection -- but as new movies I must own come out I will definitely get them only on BD.

Finally, I don't know about the rest of you, but changing my format to BD makes me more careful of what I buy. I have come to the realization that I don't need to get every new thing that comes out -- Netflix is fine for that (and I can see them in BD there). If a movie is something I know I'll watch repeatedly I'll buy it, but it has to stand that test.

The BOGO sales have motivated me to purchase many films I would have otherwise skipped. Since I am one of the lucky early adopters who qualified for Amazon's 10% discount, many of these films were less than $10 each. I can justify those purchases because I know it will be easy to recoup my investment after I view them. I also regularly visit the used shops in my area. I will pick up any Blu-ray if it is around $10.

Any movie that is available on Blu-ray, that I had on dvd, has been replaced by a Blu-ray.

I sold the DVD copy first on either Ebay or Half.com, then bought the Blu-ray either used or at a cheap price.

I plan to keep doing this for each and everyone that I can.

With time, I will eventually work my way to replacing approximately 90% of my current DVD library. The only titles that would be excluded from my upgrade program would be independent films because I am sure the market is not as huge as mainstream movies for the movie studios that produced it to fully adopt/convert their DVD format into HD.

Last time I checked, my DVD collection spanned 400+ titles, but due to my infatuation with BD, I went ahead and traded for cash about 100 titles to upgrade my line-up. Therefore, I am somewhere around 300+ titles now. So, about 25% of my library has been downsized.

If I love a movie, I'll buy it every time a better version of it comes along. I've spent way too much money doing this, but I can't help myself. I'll probably re-buy everything I have on Blu-Ray, once it becomes available.

Well I am on the right track with my Blu-ray collection, I have no duplicates. Now, I have over 150 Blu-ray films. I only own 1 VHS, which is the first Pokémon film. And I only own 1 DVD, which is South Park movie. Before Blu-ray came out I used to rent movies.

I would replace all of my SD DVD's with Blu-ray provided the Bly-ray was done right (excellent PQ/Lossless Audio). I have a couple hundred DVD's that I have not watched in a year (when I started buying Blu-ray). I really enjoy HDM and there is no turning back (for me).
