I hope that the Japan release of The Island by Warner features LPCM. Japanese customers are extremely pizzed by recent Warner offerings.

I got CON AIR yesterday at BB and was very pleased with the ten dollar rebate offer (if you already own that title on regular DVD, send in the proof-of-purchases for the old and BluRay discs and the register receipt for the BD purchase and BVHE send you ten bucks). Offer also applies to THE ROCK and CRIMSON TIDE. Coupon says "one rebate per household" but isn't clear if it is per title or if I can get additional rebates for the other two titles that I will be buying soon.

ben7ben3 - I was thinking about getting THE ROCK on Blu-Ray. I have the Criterion Edition DVD, and I'd upgrade to Blu-Ray if only the features on the Criterion Edition were on it.

Are any of the Criterion Edition featurettes and commentary on the Blu-Ray edition?

why would it matter if you already have those extras on the DVD? I doubt they'd be in high-definition.

That would seriously be a dealbreaker for you? If the blu-ray didn't have the extras you already own on another disc?

I'm a big DVD guy. If I know there's going to be a more elaborate DVD version of a movie that I love out a little later, I wait. It's the reasons I held off getting HOT FUZZ and SIN CITY. It's why I haven't picked up any of the Kill Bill movies. With the exception of CLERKS and MALLRATS, I do not have dual copies of the same movie. When I saw the Blu-Ray editions of THE LAST WALTZ, THE DESCENT, SUPERMAN RETURNS, GOODFELLAS, THE AVIATOR and most of my Kubrick DVD's, I got rid of them since I knew that they were the exact same DVD's but with better picture quality.

I really liked THE ROCK. I think that it's Michael Bay's best work so far. It's a great action flick that actually has a brain and some soul to it. So when I saw a Criterion Edition of it in a store on Scarth St., I picked it up because I knew it would be better than the regular edition that Disney put out. When I heard that THE ROCK would be out on Blu-Ray, I was excited. But I still don't know if any of the extras that was on the Criterion Edition that made it a better overall DVD (like the commentary, the video interview of Jerry, the various SFX featurettes and the excerpts from a documentary about Alcatraz prison) would be on the Blu-Ray disc. See, it's not just the movie for me.

To answer your question, yes. It would be a deal breaker. So are there any of the Criterion Edition featurettes on the Blu-Ray Edition?

Question for those who bought The Rock and/or Con Air on Blu:

I have the Unrated Extended Cut of Con Air and The Criterion version of The Rock. Is the PQ/AQ good enough on the Blu versions to warrant a double dip?

I have them both as well on DVD, but decided to double dip myself, they are on their way from Amazon. I figured they are both pretty good movies and should be pretty sweet on BLU

i watched Con Air last night and it was pretty awesome. i haven't seen the dvd version lately to really compare, but from what i saw, the PQ looked amazingly sharp and clear. with the $10 rebate offer, it was a very good deal IMO.
