I hope it makes a good amount of money, so maybe we can hope to get a 3d home release in the states...although ghost in the shell didn't perform too well, and that's coming to 3d bluray.

Mummy 3D looks like a mostly medium 3D layered film based on the trailer. Hopefully there are action scenes that we haven't glimpsed at yet with stronger 3D. Will try to see it this weekend.

My anticipation for this film Mummy is average at the moment. The 3D will get me into the theater.
I hope there are some horror/scare elements in this film, not just action, but the style leans towards a supernatural spectacle more than anything, with epic sandstorms with faces as an example, as with the prior Mummy films with Brendan Fraser. I liked the first Mummy film with him in there anyway.

The German version is now only 15.84 euros total with shipping to the United States. Are we sure that it is region-free? The studio is listed as Universal Pictures Germany GmbH.

Reviews and reports are not encouraging at all. Giving this a pass theatrically. Will wait for Blu-ray.

I agree. Honestly, not only waiting for Blu-ray but I will wait for this to hit 19.99. Seems like a terrible movie with lack luster 3D.

Just got home from seeing this. Most of the reviews here are spot on. I found the movie entertaining enough but the 3D was a bit lackluster. I will always support a 3D movie if it's shown in that format but even though this was pretty mild 3D most of the time there were a few instances that made it worth it. Especially the plane scene like everyone has mentioned. Throughout most of the movie I forgot that it was even in 3D. I didn't get to see this in IMAX since it's a 40 mile drive each way to the nearest one and I didn't think it was worthy of the trip. Overall enjoyed it but it seems to be a rough start to the whole Dark Universe series they are trying to establish.
[Show spoiler]Throughout much of The Mummy it reminded me a lot of the movie Lifeforce so I'll have to go and revisit that classic movie again sometime soon.
(Not that big a spoiler but I'll hide it just in case.)

Reewinder you're absolutely right. Now that you pointed out that movie that was placed in spoiler tag I can really see the comparison.

Well let me counter some of the mediocre feedback for this movie with my own, I thought The Mummy was absolutely fantastic and a really entertaining action/ adventure/ horror movie. I thought the characters and the script was good, I thought the action scenes were exciting and really well done and I thought the visual FX looked great. I love that so much of it was set in London too, gave the movie a great feel. Cruise was very good as Nick Morton, he is a bit of a cad at first but his character takes on the responsibility of the situation he's unwittingly unleashed and he played it well. I thought Annabelle Wallis was absolutely stunning and a very good actress, glad she'll be popping up in future Dark Universe movies. Russell Crowe was also very good as Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde. He plays the dual sides of the character perfectly. He's a great anchor for this universe. Sofia Boutella is absolutely gorgeous as the title character but she doesn't get to make too much of an impression as her character is very thinly written. She looks great but Arnold Vosloo's Imhotep from the 1999 movie is a far more memorable villain. There are lots of great set pieces and I really like how horror tinged most of them were, with atmospheric locations and more extreme violence and fx.

Now onto the 3D and sadly I have to admit that it could be a lot stronger. There are some great 3D shots but overall as has been said, they played it too safe with the 3D. I get the impression that the conversion was probably a late in the game addition as early posters and trailers made no mention of the format. If that's the case then it definitely shows with a mild/ medium 3D presentation. I don't want to make it sound like the 3D is not worth your time though as IMO it definitely is. Despite it being quite conservative, you're always aware of the sense of 3D space in the various locations and environments and the depth is always there even if it could be stronger. No pop outs so to speak but there are a number of very impressive 3D shots. When Nick Morton first opens up the tomb of the mummy and stares down into it, there's a gorgeous 3D shot really showing good depth and sense of perspective. Shots like these pepper the movie and help to elevate the reserved 3D. I would not want to watch this movie in 2D with the 3D version available, it's a solid conversion and I would compare it to something like 47 Ronin. I imagine this will look very nice on 3D blu ray. it's not going to win anyone over who isn't already onboard with 3D but for us enthusiasts there is a lot to appreciate and hey, it's a big budget large scale action adventure horror so the 3D only adds to this experience.

I highly recommend checking this out in 3D, I really enjoyed the whole movie and to make a nice change to a lot of big budget blockbusters it's quite short and very fast paced so there's never a dull moment. The ending is terrific, setting things up very nicely for continuing stories in this universe and there's lots of fun visual FX which blend seamlessly with a very tactile feeling world. I think the critics are way off on this one.

Well against my better judgement I'm probably going to see this tonight (I have a pass anyway). IMDb doesn't list a conversion company so I'll sit through the credits to see who's to blame :P

Stereo-D. I sat through the end credits.

Don't go with too much expectations. Pre-conceived notions about movies rarely do any good. This was very enjoyable to me and I'll watch it again in 3D. To me, the fact that the writers and directors at least tried to make this film feel different, while respecting not only the original, but the 1999 film as well shows their sincerity.
this is a 1 hr 50 mins of solid action and fun. I agree with a previous poster here, critics are off their rocker on this one!

Thanks for the 3D reviews. So it sounds like mild to medium 3D overall for the 3D layers, with not much pop out, and a few good 3D shots.

Thanks to Fandango's policy, I didn't see this in 3D but as for the movie, I thought the Fraser version was more entertaining by a long shot. I didn't find the new movie to be spooky at all nor have any intensity going on like I hoped it would. The Dark Universe is off to a dark beginning. Did anyone notice the reference to the Fraser movie
[Show spoiler]the book of the dead with space for the key
? It was brief and if you blinked you missed it.

The Mummy 2017 3D Review:
Cinemark 3D, mid row center. Sitting upright in seat.

3D Previews: (Nothing new shown this time)
Valerian 3D: Strong 3D.
Thor Ragnarok 3D: Strong 3D.

3D Layers: 7/10. Good, mostly medium 3D layers. Some milder shots here and there.
3D Pop Out Count: 1/10. The crow popping out of the plane window is a strong 3D pop out, but unfortunately, one of the only clear pop outs I remember seeing.
3D Framing: 6/10. The film doesn't take advantage of the objects in the environment often enough, and a lot of close ups during dialog have a face against a blurry, 1 layer background most times. Medium distance shots work better here.
3D Lighting. 5/10. Even at Cinemark, who brightens the image with equal contrast, this is a generally dark movie taking place at night or in tombs.
3D Conversion: 7/10. A good, medium 3D conversion. Nothing exciting, but I wasn't disappointed.

I liked the movie as general action/horror entertainment. The queen was captivating in how she could absorb the life of the living to heal herself. Cruise's friend was on the verge of being an annoying character, but he was hardly there after the first 40 minutes of the roughly 2 hour film. The main female lead was good. The pacing was very good and the 2 hours went fast. A couple loose ends, as they leave this open for a sequel if it happens. Not a deep story, as the evil queen Mummy is after Nick(Cruise) most of the film.

Glad you enjoyed the movie too Zivouhr, I thought you might. It's got a lot going for it and the ending leaves things with a lot of great potential with
[Show spoiler]Cruise being the reincarnation of Set. There's so many cool places it could go.
