I need this, Jaws and Close Encounters on UHD and I'll be set for Mr. Spielberg... at least until we get a 3D format extension so I can get a proper UHD Tintin.

Plus Jurassic Park, in glorious 4K 2D as it was meant to be seen.

Good to see another catalog release from this time period!

Poltergeist too pls, yeah yeah I know he didn't technically direct it but his style is all over it. I like it better than ET in fact!

With the new movie arriving in 2019, surely a UHD BD tie-in at that time.

If prior discussions are to be believed, Spielberg basically took over the reins of "Poltergeist" from Tobe Hooper. As producer, he was not happy with Hooper's work. The majority is a Spielberg film.

It would be nice if the excised Pizza Hut dialog scene was put back. The theatrical jump cut is jarring.

With 3D color timing, minus DNR?

Day one for me, if it's sourced from the already excellent 4K scan from the 2012 BD release with a mild HDR pass, I'll be more than happy.

Can't wait! Good thing I didn't order the Zavvi steelbook the other day. Something told me to wait even though I still want it. Maybe I'll purchase it if I don't like the cover to the 4K edition, but we'll see.

I need this in my life. I hate the blu-ray transfer, so I haven't bought the movie yet. I'm sure we'll get it next year though (and Jurassic World) with the release of the next Jurassic movie.

Doubt it, that was a lovely remaster and this UHD will surely use the same one.

The Blu-ray is about as perfect as one could expect for rec 709 HD.

Hasn't the tech come along since 2012? I love it myself, but I'd assume that it's possible to get even closer to "analog".

Hopefully the 2D master doesn't have the same ruddy-brown timing as the 3D. Indeed, watching the 3D version in 3D looks much less sunburnt than watching the 3D in 2D due to the tint of the glasses (this one probably having been locked out of selectable 2D playback for that reason).

4K restoration has been around since 1993, so 2012 is hardly the dark ages. Improvements to scanning and mastering in recent years are mainly in the realms of capturing extended dynamic range rather than sheer detail, and while a brand-new oversampled scan would likely offer further improvements we're talking tiny increments rather than giant leaps for 4K-kind.

Sure, for something like Jaws I think more "analog" look could be achieved because the then-new 4K restoration had a moderate amount of DNR applied but that's an aesthetic issue, not a technological one.

ET's fine as it is.
