Question is, will movie rentals be 4K HDR 2020 24hz or 60hz. If they continue to not use 24hz, no sale.

The new Siri Remote (replacement) also gets a price drop with the redesign: $59

I don't believe itunes distinguish the difference between buying and redeeming

I think it does through the purchase history in our iTunes account. It will either state "free" or it would price paid.

4K titles also cost the same as HD titles in iTunes.

Great to see that films you already have will be upgraded for free to the 4K version.

Also, I wonder digital copies of films that come with 4K blu-rays, will they be iTunes only from now on instead of UltraViolet?

The thing I'm wondering is how soon the studios will be coming out with 4K versions of their back catalogues. Apple's promise to upgrade previously purchased Itunes movies to 4K sounds great but right now there are very few movies available in that format. I'd love to see Disney upgrade their back catalogue but I'm not expecting that anytime soon.

There's actually quite a large amount of titles available in 4K... far more than the amount of titles available on 4K UltraHD Blu-ray. The problem is that not every provider offers said titles.

It appears Apple will be offering 4K titles from all the major studios (sans Disney possibly). Unlike VUDU, iTunes will not be Dolby Vision exclusive, so that could really help them fill out their catalog too.

That library will only grow too...

15 Mbps is roughly what Netflix offers for their 4K content. But I doubt Apple will use descent bitrates. They are still squeezing 2 hour movies with lots of action into 3 GB 1080p files...

I'll never support purchasing a compressed and DRM'd movie/show, but I do think streaming is wonderful for renting. However why I'd buy this box instead of just using my Vudu or Amazon apps is beyond me.

Ironically the best Vudu experience I have had was with the new Apple TV app.

If you buy a disc, you typically receive a digital code for either/both iTunes/UV (Vudu), so there is really no cost associated with building a digital library. Rent a house for a few weeks or the summer as we did this year, take along your Apple TV and your digital library, plus rentals, is available.

And we're not even mentioning 40 million songs for streaming, apps for all the major sports and then some, games, etc.

But to your question, streaming apps typically run faster and are more stable on the Apple TV than those on your TV or your disc player, however YMMV.

I'm really excited for when Prime hits. Using Prime on the Roku is such a chore. Hate the layout. I've been missing a lot of good shows as I just hate the app.

Are you talking about the Amazon Prime app? If so...its the same app across all platforms now including Roku. Unless you haven't upgraded in the last year.

I did purchase the digital version of GOTG2 40% off on Vudu because I didn't like it enough to occupy my very limited shelf space and I wanted to see how it looked.

I thought it looked phenomenal and I most likely will be going digital in the very near future. I hope Apple's moves brings down prices across the board because $30 is just absurd.

I won't ever buy this though I just want VUDU to react

I do think streaming quality is getting pretty amazing, but the ownership/DRM aspect of it is something I can't support. Sad to have another one bite the dust, but I know it's where the majority of customers are heading. Discs will be a laserdisc style niche in a handful of years, but I'll still enjoy buying them.
