I always thought Paramount's motivation was this :
We know HD DVD will die soon. Microcrap gives us 150 million $ to get HD DVD exclusive ... this will last 6, maybe 8 months until the format dies, so we take the money and release on Blu when HD DVD is dead ... everyone wins!

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say "F" PARAMOUNT! They screwed up and should pay the piper. They turned their backs on us consumers for a big pay day....When they do switch back the movie will have to be phenominal and have phenominal reviews before I'll buy it. They've made their bed now and they will have to lie in it as far as I'm concerned.

It's not so much as love for Universal as it is disgust with Paramount for making their decision to drop Blu-ray and the way that they did it. There was support for Paramount's Blu-ray releases and still Paramount did what they did.

Paramount will come back to Blu-ray eventually. My personal hope is that they end up as the last studio supporting HD-DVD making their crawling back to Blu-ray all the more satisfying. (End vindictive mode)

They dropped the ball when they allowed Microsoft to pay them each 100 million- 150 million USD when they could of got more from the Blu-Ray purchases people makes. It's sad really that they were too short sighted to see the big picture. I am not sure why Paramount done this but as for Universal, it does not shock me that a company that dumped Back To The Future The Ride for The Simpsons The Ride at their american theme parks did this bone head move to be HD-DVD exclusive only.

Now that Warner and New Line have made the correct decision to go blu, i imagine that Paramount and Universal will indeed join the blu ranks soon. Now that HD DVD just had the final needle in the coffin added, their sales and everything else will drop and the incentives they received may help compensate them for the expenses if making HD DVD discs that no one will ever buy

No need for petitions...they will be back with their tails between their legs looking for forgiveness.

Nope, I'm not going to open my wallet to them anytime soon.
100% agreed.

I don't really blame Paramount for taking the pay-off. $150M is a lot of money, and it was probably a good idea at the time. I do, however, take issue with their immediate ceasure of blu production (but I suppose it was a stipulation of their new contract).

Anyway, when they come crawling back, I will be eager to buy some of their movies.

Sure, because that will really teach greedy corporations a lesson

Stop rolling over for corporations that screw consumers. Paramount deserves more "harshness" than they are receiving. I hope they have to rot on the vine all year long while everyone else makes money off of blu-ray.

I say let them suffer. They went for a cash grab and it came back to bite them in the ass. You have to know they're looking for an out clause or are praying that Toshiba says screw it and throws in the towel which would make their deal null and void and free them to go back to making blu-rays.

This is past petitions. Paramount coming back to Blu before the contract ends soley lies with the lawyers now.

They will, with or without a petition. Mid year at latest.

My disgust with them however, goes even further than that. I'll buy Universal movies before Paramount.
