Oooo, always wanted to see these, but Netflix never had them Farewell My Lovely has a SUPERB David Shire score I've owned on CD for years, so it'll be great to finally appreciate it in context.

The David Shire score for FAREWELL is definitely a classic, up there with other neo-noir classic scores such as John Barry's BODY HEAT and Jerry Goldsmith's CHINATOWN.

And smoked weed most of his life. He was as cool as McQueen.

This is one of my favorite announcements in years. As a major fan of both (even the often maligned second), a double in one shot will start 2018 off right.

I thought I’d post this here for anyone who is interested. TCM is airing several films in the Gay Lawrence “Falcon” series on Monday, November 6th. Included is The Falcon Takes Over which is based on Raymond Chandler’s novel Farewell My Lovely. It was the first movie based on that book, just replacing Philip Marlowe with the Falcon (played by George Sanders). You might want to check it out to see how it compares to the other two movie versions.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Man, I hope nothing ever forces TCM to cease operation. What would there be without it?

I know, I love that channel. I’ve made a lot of decisions on whether to buy or not to buy a movie after watching it there first.

Love the classic scene spoofed in Naked Gun where Marlowe is checking her out while walking behind her, “She was giving me a look I could feel in my hip pocket.” Priceless!

Interesting, didn't even realise they'd been remade in the 70s.

Farewell is a gem. Looks like we get 1:85. Any info on other tech aspects? Are they scanning the original camera negative? It was released mono but that was 1975 when Dolby stereo was making inroads. Any possibility it being remixed to 5.1? David Shire's brilliant film score would sound even better in stereo. Perhaps a separate bonus track for the score?

the low price seems to indicate both movies on a single disc. Shout should call it the 'Compression Edition'

EDIT: Never mind. Bluray.com already confirms its a single BD-50 disc

The list price is $22.95 so why is everyone so excited by it being available for around $15? I would think that is a normal discount for a blu-Ray at that price point

Yeah, it's the normal price. I'll wait until it drops to $13.95 at DD, which would make it $11.85 before topcashback during a sale.

Farwell My Lovely is great and Charlotte Rampling is at her most beautiful and perfectly cast as a noir dame. The Big Sleep was a film by Michael Winner, who was among the worst director of the 70s and 80s and therefore a major drop in quality.
