Hi Law,

Thanks so much. My gal has tied me down for 41 wonderful years and wouldn't trade a single day of it.

Joe, what was the 3-D blu ray that first started you on the road to "insanity"? The first one that really wowed you and made you decide there was no going back?

Mine was Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Hi Mercury,

By coincidence, it was also Journey To The Center of The Earth!

But it's a strange story. Never saw a 3D film in the theater yet was always interested in 3D for the home. However, when 3D came out I already had a Sony KD34XBR960 which was reference quality for it's time, being it was still a crt. So like it was for many, 3D would be something down the road.

Now, my version of "Journey" was the DVD which came with the anaglyth glasses. Saw this on my 360 and even with the triple crosstalk that first home theater experience just blew me away!

So while initially depressed when my 960 died back in 2015, it gave me a reason to finally pursue 3D. So with a set and player in my possession, what began with that anaglyth version of Journey exploded into total insanity!

Joe, definitely watch Journey Center Earth 3D blu ray asap. Mostly stronger 3D and pop outs. Awesome. I have to watch it again now.

-------

When I buy a blu ray 3D, it's because I want to rewatch (after seeing in 3D theaters) or watch it for the first time, or I wouldn't have ordered it, being more selective for the movie and the quality of 3D or both these days, compared to the earlier days of blu ray 3D when I bought almost every new release. We have a giant 3D library to choose from these days thankfully.

With that in mind, I don't have any blu ray 3Ds at this time that I haven't opened and watched yet, though I do have a stack of rarely watched blu ray 3Ds is a reminder to be more selective with my purchases.

That said, cool to see so much support for blu ray 3Ds from all who posted a list of unwatched blu ray 3Ds.

Hi Zivouhr

Don't worry. Have the dual pack with that and Journey 2 and seen them both!

I'm really glad this thread has opened up such an array of conversation. With so many 3D discs yet to watch due to the many we've purchased, how can it be seriously said that 3D is dead? A niche following, fine. But dead? Nah!

Forgot to mention.

Glad I have extra rechargeable active glasses. With all the catching up I have to do, don't want to be caught short circuited.

About 31. All the 3d titles I own, I skim through to get a feel for how they'll look. Some of them I've watched a good chunk of, some, not so much. I need to come up with a plan to better manage this. Don't even get me started on non 3d. Probably in the hundreds. I don't know why I scurry to get all these releases, only to not watch them. I think my problem is the stuff I love, I watch repeatedly, leaving no room for the newer stuff.

I might go for a day or two before I watch any newly received blu (3D or regular). Usually it is being watched the 1st day it comes in.

This afternoon going to try and watch both monkey kings. That will reduce the pile to 24, not including pre orders.

I'll wager those cheesy red and cyan glasses have kick-started a lot of 3-D obsessions over the years. I had the anaglyph Journey as well! Used to watch it over and over while I was saving up for my proper 3-D set-up. Piranha was another. Little did we know just how amazing home theatre 3-D was going to get. Long live the insanity!

Hi Mercury.

I sincerely believe that others could become just as insane as we did if they had that first glimpse. That's why I felt it was important to point out that triple crosstalk on the DVD didn't phase me at all.. Some had suggested it would be enough of an eyesore to turn people off to 3D. Not at all. What I saw with eye popping effects was something I never saw from a TV before and was easily worth the trade off. Then bought polar express and was happy to find the two three stooges shorts in the boxed set I got.

Also realized such crosstalk would not be the case with the newer technology. Plus the 3D would have to be even better.

That's why I once thought a great way to get more people into the fold would have been for a station like Turner classic movies to air some of those great fifties films in 3D using anaglyph technology. They could promote the airings way in advance to give viewers time to get multiple pairs of glasses through TCM or even at theaters showing 3D for a nominal cost. No matter the drawbacks with imaging, etc., I think the experience would be what would impress people most.

These films could also air periodically on TNT and TBS, along with Journey, polar Express and others.

Why not?, as bluto would ask. If people would pay admission in the theaters, they would stay at home once in a while too.

Its a small thing but if aired often enough, its one way to help promote 3D and get it slowly put back as a feature in some sets and players in the long term, as long as the industry counts only on modest and not high expectations.

Just saw the first monkey king. Very good 3D and though it might not be up there with the best of my Hong Kong imports, it was still quite entertaining and I'm glad its part of my collection. Will catch number two tonight to see what happens 500 years later.

Don't have a problem not watching those I've previously seen in the theater. Only 3d films I've watched in the theater in the last 47 years are "Avatar" and "Redheads". And those are the last 2 films (flat or 3d) that I've watched at all in the last 15 years. Only one film in my collection (about 75) I haven't watched: "The Stewardesses", and I don't plan on changing that.(LOL)

Blue aliens and Redheads from Seattle. You know what, though, Warren--I'd trade half of my modern theatrical 3-D viewings for one of your authentic Golden Age 3-D cinema experiences. Any of the good ones. It's a time machine thing...

Speaking of which, is The Stewardesses really that bad? I came close to buying that and APE 3-D the other day, but my Amazon shopping cart's cheese-o-meter almost went into meltdown.

At my place I've watched none of them since I've never had a 3D display. I'm a pretty impulsive kind of guy and so both of the tvs were purchased spur of the moment with short notice because they were irresistible prices at the time. But I have watched some of them at a friend's place.

The Stewardesses' main crime is being mind-numbingly boring, despite attractive 3D. However, the disc is well worth it for the half hour Experiments In Love short film, I've watched that four or five times already.

A*P*E is cheesy indeed but it has excellent 3D, I loved it.
