They will retaliate in the worst possible way. They'll have Slim GoodBooty migrate from AVS, come over here, post and annoy the living hell out of us.

It would be interesting if Microsoft does go through with their story a few years ago stating that if the market were to go "Blu," they would manufacture a Blu-ray add-on accordingly for the 360.

The HD DVD add-on had about a 2% attach rate. It was created as a strategic low-cost entry point into HD DVD to help it win the format war. I don't think MS made much money off of it.

There is no such incentive for them to create a Blu-ray add-on now, so I expect that they won't

I believe that was just talk at the time...

They should make a BR add-on for their red ring of death.

The only way Microsoft can retalliate is by invalidating and deactivating Sony Corporate's XPPro and 2003 Server licenses on their Open License Agreement, effectually shutting down the corporation.

Pride will make them want to retaliate in some manner. I don't see them giving in anytime soon.

Deals like this one or any other you see in the next week or two were likely planned long in advance.

Remember, there is one last big mover of HDTVs coming up, the Super Bowl. Both sides were/are going to use free players with HDTVs as incentives.

I couldn't see the player details anywhere. I bet they're giving a 1080i player away with the 1080p tv

CC's ad has a free Sharp BD player with the purchase of any of 3 selected HD televisions...

and BBY's ad has a Panasonic 1080p plasma with a $500 discount when you purchase the HDTV and the Panny Blu player...which makes the BD player free

they might not surrender, but just leave hd dvd alone and die slowly (or rather quickly). They'll do nothing about it again
