Perry is a pretty talented guy, I like the movies that he stays out of the dresses.

He was really good in Gone Girl. Not so much in Alex Cross, though.

Personally, his movies are not any good. His Madea movies are a step or two below an Ernest P. Worrell movie while his other movies are just overly (an understatement there) dramatic, sermonized soap operas. I'm surprised I've never heard the organs play in the background.

4/5.

I’ll preface my comments by saying I think Tyler Perry as a filmmaker is largely rote and he has genuinely only made 3 good films, in my opinion. Why Did I Get Married?, Madea Goes to Jail and I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Acrimony is now his fourth.

I’ve seen every single TP film and while some have moments of goodness (except Boo 2, it’s terrible from start to finish), this one takes its premise and it’s world class star in Taraji P. Henson and it goes off the rails bats*it. This film never bored me once. I have a feeling had Taraji not been narrating the scenes she herself isn’t in, I may have been bored, but her delivery in that narration keeps you entertained.

I’ll never give TP a perfect score because it’s not humanly possible but this film is wildly entertaining. That third act, lord jesus, is so so so so good and Taraji sinks her teeth in and has so much fun with it.

Finally, I’m so thankful he didn’t find a way to shoehorn an overarching religious message as he usually does. This didn’t need it.

Sounds like something you'd watch after a few Long Isle Teas.
But, I will credit you for your honesty

[Show spoiler]that one shot of her getting pulled by the anchor chain looked so ridiculous and so cheap I busted out laughing.

Tyler Perry's Acrimony
(first-time viewing)

If you don't know what Acrimony means just like me when I went an saw this movie, don't worry they have a big full screen graphic of what it means along with four other worlds that are never mention in entire movie also. This movie is crazy but not as crazy as you want it to be for long enough you gotta wait for a long time for when you want the crazy batshit Tyler Perry and this movie is all of two hours long but those last 15 minutes the stuff that happens on a boat is coo-coo bananas. I will say that Taraji P. Henson makes this movie way more watchable than it has the right to be just by her terrible performance as the crazy wife who feels she been betrayed by her cheating, loser of a husband. She finds a wide variety of ways of saying the word mother****er and knows well how to smoke a cigarette. She clearly overqualified for this material. I find it hilarious how ridiculously soapy it is. If you can't stand Tyler Perry movies you will probably won't like this one either.

This just came on Epix. I figured I'd give it a chance and good grief, this was just flat out horrid.
Many of Tyler Perry's films tend to be convoluted and and out of whack but the plot for this film is so beyond convoluted, obvious and so, so ridiculously written (even by Perry's standards), it could not be taken seriously on any level. Then you throw in the bad acting jobs by all involved just makes it worse. I've watched episodes of Melrose Place less obvious than this movie.
It was clear that Taraji P. Henson was going through the motions in what amounted to be nothing but a one dimensional role.
This movie defies any form of logic to the point that it became laughable then it just turn outright pathetic.
Of the Tyler Perry movies I've seen, this is his absolute worst by a country mile.

This is saying a lot. Haven't seen every TP movie but I actually enjoyed this one. It's still not good but much more enjoyable than the other TP movies I've seen.

In what way?

I Can Do Bad All by Myself is probably his best movie in my opinion. But, I haven't seen most of them.

1) No Madea. 2) It wasn't all preachy in making the black man look bad. It was the opposite which is rare with his movies.

To be fair, Tyler Perry's movies makes black people look bad, in general.
