Second that one. There is no reason whatsoever to keep the IMAX scenes exclusive to the 3D releases. All Blu-Ray releases should have the movies full ratio. Don't get me wrong I love 3D but particularly when Marvel finally giving their 4k discs Native 4k DI's and Dolby vision its important that they don't leave out a big chunk of the movie's visuals

It'll happen 100%. They won't not make one for their biggest movie.

And going by the other Avengers steelbooks, it'll most likely have this as the artwork.

Black Panther actually didn't even have an IMAX 3D option at the theaters near me, they only offered it in 2D.

I think the biggest hint though is that the end credits scene of Ragnarok, which presumably was shot for Infinity War. On the UHD that scene is letterboxed.

Wearing my "I love Hawkeye" t-shirt for this movie. I wish we had IMAX around here. I'm sick with envy of everyone who will get that treat.

City leaders said we would get an IMAX, but it was all talk.

We have an IMAX screen in the nearest theater to me. Well, one of those baby IMAX screen things. Unfortunately, when I saw Blade Runner 2049 in IMAX there were two stuck pixels that were really obvious and marred the presentation.

I get a few dollars off the regular shows for a military discount so the price gap between IMAX and regular shows is even larger and it's not worth it for a stuck pixel. Though the sound and images are quite nice. I was impressed at the only other movie I've seen there, Captain America 3.

I would assume this release would be similar to Dunkirk and would include the large format version. Also, unlike previous Marvel releases, since the entire movie is shot in imax there should not be ratio shifts

Does this or doesn't this mean that it'll be fully presented in an IMAX format for the 4K home release though? I know there are films with IMAX scenes but I'm not sure of other 4K releases that were fully shot in IMAX.

Who knows. As far as I know this is the first movie shot entirely in Imax. My guess is it's like Dunkirk where the streaming version gets the cropped standard theater version while the disc version is the full Imax ratio.

Shame my local IMAX doesn't offer IMAX 2d if the film comes in 3d. It's either IMAX 3d or normal non IMAX 2d. I wish all IMAX films were in 2d to be honest. Especially if the film has a 4k DCP. Missing out on that with 3d

I think the biggest hint though is that the end credits scene of Ragnarok, which presumably was shot for Infinity War. On the UHD that scene is letterboxed.
It was shot as part of the Infinity War production (as Thor is wearing his new Infinity War costume), but it will have gone through the same post-production process as Ragnarok; so it appears how Taikia wanted it to appear.

Plus it would have been strange for the credits scene to have a completely different aspect ratio to the rest of the film. I think the scene from Civil War that plays at the end of Ant-Man's credits is the only time that's happened; Ant-Man was in 1.85:1 while the Civil War scene (and Civil War itself) was in 2.39:1. But even then, that was a scene from another film and we still don't have confirmation that the Ragnarok credits scene is actually a scene we will see again in Infinity War (the film might pick up later on or show the same scene from Thanos's perspective).

Jury's still out on the aspect ratio for the Infinity War home release. I think it ultimately depends which aspect ratio the Russos prefer. The extended IMAX aspect ratios for Beauty and the Beast and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales didn't show up on any home release however.

The thing that really gets me is that the color timing and lensing is really different in that scene from the rest of Ragnarok, which makes me think that it's not as Taika as it seems. I don't disagree that they may have just cropped it for Ragnarok but I feel like if the entire movie was meant to be in a taller aspect ratio then it would have been included, plus it looks like the blocking of the scene is framed more for 2.35 anyway. Then again you may be right, it may not be part of Infinity War but honestly it just seems too different to be otherwise.

I'm just not really expecting the IMAX ratio, I'd love it if it had it but I'm not holding my breath. In addition to the movies you listed BvS, Blade Runner 2049, Skyfall, Ghost Protocol, etc. all never got the IMAX scenes, and given the Russo's preference for anamorphic in general I just honestly don't see it happening.

The Russo's chose to film the entire movie in Imax. While previous Disney/Marvel movie had ratio shifts. This movie should have none and I would imagine the Russo's would push for the Imax ratio for home release.

Not that imdb is the end all be all but they show an aspect ratio of 2.39:1

FYI, the DCP is 2k. But hopefully it's a 4k DI like Black Panther.

This is Disney, people, don't get your hopes up. On the UHD release, expect a 2.4:1 constant AR and dull sound.
