Since the projector is down, I decided to watch some old-fashioned DVDs on my old-fashioned 720p TV.

Thank you Al_The_Strange for recommending this bizarre but interesting film. Well acted and visually stunning.

Recommended by cinemaphile, thanks! I also recently signed up with Hoopla and Kanopy for free streaming movies through my local library, I just wish my monthly limit wasn't so small.

What does your library limit you to? Mine is 10 per month, but that is only 10 total for all formats - movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks...
I am not familiar with Kanopy - is that something through your library as well? If so, I will have to check mine to see if they are part of it.

Glad you liked the movie!

I get 10 as well for Hoopla, all formats. Kanopy.com is the same thing, only for libraries so definitely check it out, search the site for your library to see if they participate and put in your card number/PIN. Kanopy has lots of arthouse and older stuff, good selection of foreign films from Criterion. I only get 6 per month with that but I've seen articles that some libraries allow up to 50.

looks like mine is not a part of that one. Thanks for the heads up, though! I will harass my library to join up

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)

A few people watched this series last month and it got me into the mood to watch them myself. I love Temple of Doom, I'm not really sure why it's as polarizing as it is. Sure, Willie isn't as good a character as Marion but I mean come on, there's a ton of stuff to love here. Four and a half stars.

Like it a lot, too. Just checked my Letterboxd account. Also gave it a 4.5/5.

Truth or Dare
(first-time viewing)

This movie is nutty, does it make sense no, is it terrible yes, but somewhat entertaining. This is definitely a shut your brain off type of movie. It's nowhere near as good as Happy Death Day which is a thousand times better than this. This movie makes not a lick of sense and relies upon the characters being mind-boggling stupid but there are some decent scares. Also with a pretty good cast of tv people, with Lucy Hale from Pretty Little Liars and Tyler Posey from Teen Wolf and I noticed the Asian guy from The Edge of Seventeen. It's pretty much ridiculous and not in a fun way like it breaks its own rules too many times like it sets these rules out and then it keeps changing them kind of on fly it seems like and it just doesn't really add up. I think this could have been something fun and be a little more knowing but I thought it was lame for a pg-13 horror movie. The demon in the movie is weirdly omniscient because it knows everyone's deepest secrets and knows how to use them to turn them all against each other. I'm sitting here like how does it know that and does it read thoughts I don't know. I feel this movie thinks it is smarter than it is, the way it ended I thought okay you think your clever but no I didn't like it but am intrigued. I would rather see the sequel it sets up after this movie that would be interesting. I can't defend this movie or recommend anyone to see it. But if you do you wont necessarily have awful time I guess.

Scorched Earth (2018) (First-time viewing)

I'm a sucker for Gina Carano movies and the cover of this one looked cool so I bought it on BD shortly after it came out. Unfortunately it's not very good. The villain was pretty cool but that's pretty much it, it's forgettable and/or below average in all other areas.

Two stars. I can't believe I spent $20 on this.

Avengers: Infinity War
(2nd-viewing)

[Show spoiler]Everyone dies. Not really but there's absolutely no way the people who died stay dead because there's a third Guardians of the Galaxy movie and a second Spider-Man: Homecoming. Different people may or may not take over their roles I don't know. Shuri may be the next Black Panther? Speaking of him when I saw T'Challa disappears in to the distance and everybody in the audience gasps I'm thinking from a Disney and Marvel standpoint that's your moneymaker you just got rid of. Did they do that before they knew he was going to bring in billions of dollars. Spider-Man death was an emotional one. Loki bit the dust first but I don't trust that because he died before and came back. Heimdall is gone we see him get killed we see Gamora die, but she can't be died. Pretty sure The Collector is dead. Those are the ones we see get their own individual drive the story forward deaths. At the end of the movie when you see Thanos succeed in collecting all the Infinity stones and snaps his fingers people start turning into ash and disappear that becomes a lot of characters as in Black Panther and Falcon and Spider-Man and Doctor Strange and Star-lord and Drax and Groot and Mantis and Scarlet Witch who gets a much bigger role and Vision gets killed but doesn't disappear. Bucky disappears while Captain America watches and in the stinger at the very end we see Maria Hill disappear and Nick Fury right after hits the beacon which I believe is a nod to Captain Marvel. So amongst the problems or me being mad at the choices made are one when Scarlet Witch destroys the mind stone Thanos uses the time stone and just rewinds and gets it. It was a big plot point in Doctor Strange it had me thinking why didn't he use it more and do whatever he wants and not have the avengers lured in a false sense of victory? The movie wants the power of the shock of killing off half the universe I was like wow they really went there but it took a second and I'm like it cant be true with all the other movies to come. It takes the bite out of that shock but it's still a gut punch. Somethings I like was we got more info on Gamora and her motivations and relationship with her "father" which was an interesting way to show a side of Thanos. He really loves her and shows that love by pushing her off a cliff. Thor's interaction with the Guardians their dynamic works like a fish out of water nature of Thor and the wackiness of the Guardians that is funny. Iron-Man with Doctor Strange are both quick-witted and verbal and it works. I loved that Red Skull came back that was a big surprise. One question what happen to Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnorok ? She was also on the ship in the beginning. Did they kill her off screen? Anyways that all the spoilers I wanted to talk about. This was definitely movie I had to see again there is so much that happens so fast that you can't possibly take it all in so I do think everyone should see it at least two times.
