Watch this release last night. While the picture is slightly darker than I would like, it is a HUGE improvement over the DVD released by HVE over 10 years ago.

This is one of the best yakuza films, and along with Graveyard of Honor really introduced me to the 70's era of Japanese films.

Overall, a great film and great release. I truly hope Arrow continues with the Fukasaku films. Hope they release Yakuza Graveyard next.

So did anyone check this film out for the first time? Just wondering what the thoughts are for those seeing this for the first time?

I am struggling to keep up with all of Arrow's Japanese releases, my wallet just can't keep up, but I'm determined to keep supporting them. I still have the New Battles boxset and Doberman Cop on my shelf waiting for viewing. I will say that I recently watched Wolf Guy and I loved it, it was a very entertaining movie and made me pull the trigger on the aforementioned titles during Diabolik's sale.

All pretty good titles. Doberman Cop is fun one, and the New Battles are great as well. Most seem to have issue with the first New Battles film (which I love), but most tend to agree that the second and third are great Fukasaku films.

Street Mobster is precursor to the Battles Without Honor films as it really is a film where there are no real "good" guys and everyone is kinda doing whatever it takes at self preservation.

Yeah, both great films. I recently upgrade my Zatoichi DVD's to blu and it was a long time coming. Really can't wait for the final film to hit blu-ray.

Glad you like the look. This is a fantastic flick and hoping it sells well enough to warrant even more Fukasaku films from Arrow. Yakuza Graveyard is my Fukasaku grail and hoping that gets a release.

I recently watched the whole series and actually found the 1st film, Modern Yakuza: Outlaw's Code (1969), the most enjoyable. Great mix of ninkyo romantics and jitsuroku roughness that somehow do not cannibalize each other, with beautiful noirish cinematography.

The 2nd film, Modern Yakuza: Outlaw's Code (1969), is also very stylish and noirish, with great character dynamics between yakuza brothers Sugawara and Ryo Ikebe pitted against each other. Unfortunately the focus of the predictable story is on uninteresting young lovers on the run from yakuza, neither one of whom is Sugawara or Ikebe, hah.

The 3rd film, Modern Yakuza: Loyalty Offering Breakdown (1971) unfortunately bored me to death with its dull, slow moving story. Oddly enough, it's a ninkyo film rather than anything even remotely resembling the modern, soon-to-come jitsuroku films. Should've been called "The Conservative Yakuza" instead.

The 4th film, Modern Yakuza: Three Cherry Blossom Blood Brothers (1971), is better again with more jitsuroku vibe without actually being based on a true story. Groovy score and good performances (especially Ichiro Araki as a shy wanna-be gangster) but ultimately nothing exceptional.

Street Mobster (part 5) is my second favourite in the series, although I don't really consider it one of the very best Fukasaku films.

Sweet. Thanks for those comments on the film.

I really hope Arrow continues to give us Toei gangster films, as they have done a good job with their releases.

Really hoping for Yakuza Graveyard in 2019.

Can't believe it's been almost a year since this was announced. Great film.

Really hope we get another Fukasaku title soon. Wish there was a way of seeing what's available on HD as that might help show what Arrow might pick up. Apparently the issue with Wolves, Pigs, and Men is the transfer.

I rented the first three on DVD and watched the 4th one on VoD

The first three are available on Toei DVD in Japan. No subs of course. The 4th one's been streaming for years in Japan. I probably watched it on Amazon Prime.

Takuma, you seem like the person who knows the most about this. Besides the ones already released, do you know which of Fukasaku's gangster/cop films have HD transfers? Just wondering what has shown up on the Toei channel with HD transfers so far as this might be a way of seeing what films we might get down the line on Blu-ray.
