Not sure what's going on with Amz.ca as of late but I have opportunity to pre-order this and a couple other Anime for cheaper than the US sites, including RS.
With our dollar in the toilet (again!) compared to the mighty Yankee buck, I gotta take advantage of this while I can, so pre-ordered this and the "Patlabor Complete OVA series" from Amz.ca. ![]() |

I'm so glad that there are others who enjoy the rather dubious pleasures offered by Angel Cop. It's hard to find such gleefully-violent entertainment these days. The dub is certainly one for the ages. I used to have the fairly-awful single VHS release back in the day. It was one of the few Anime tapes that my local Blockbuster carried. Ironic that they were so pro-censorship back in the day, but they sure did stock Angel Cop and Golgo 13.

I remember owning this on VHS and buying it at Suncoast Video/Sam Goody. Everytime I would try to rewind it, it would actual film tape would jam as they tried putting 3 hours into one VHS. Returned it twice and had the same thing happen.
Was finally happy to own it on DVD and not have to deal with that problem, and really excited to own it on blu-ray. Only issue I have is that the animation styles really change between part 1 and 6. Almost like watching a two different OVA's. |

You're right, though. The look of everything changed quite a bit over the series. |

It can't be said enough, the manga ent dvd was butt ugly. Any upgrade over that is great.

I watched the first couple of episodes last night. It's the best that it has ever looked, but don't get it expecting it to look like anything other than it is, which is a very stable image harvested from a videotape. It basically looks like what the original DVD should have looked like. It's a shame that they couldn't get a new HD scan made from film materials, but it's probably not a title that the rights owners are proud of. They did the best they could with what they were provided. I did appreciate the context provided by the text supplement about anti-semitism in Japan of that era.
Now, the Devilman OVA's that were released yesterday look stunning, if you're a fan of those. |

Watching this right now (English dub).
Dodgy PQ aside (which is totally understandable considering the materials utilized, but is definitely a notch above DVD quality, just not up to par to blu-ray standards. Perhaps top notch LaserDisc quality, which always was superior to even the best PQ standards DVD had to offer), this blu-ray sounds great and totally helps support the utterly insane, ludicrous narrative. I have no idea how the Japanese track holds up in lossless quality, but I imagine it's as good as the English dub's audio quality. |

I own the original Japanese LDs of the first three Genocyber OVAs and they look quite better than they do on the Central Park Media DVD.
Yes, there are some DVDs that look better than LaserDiscs (Anchor Bay's Bad Taste DVD still holds up remarkably well even in the Blu-Ray era, though I imagine a fresh 4K remaster from the negatives would look out of this world) but LaserDisc is a wonderfully unappreciated video format. DVD was always...well...kinda a shit format. Thank fudge for Blu-Ray and 4K UHD. |
