I will only replace my truly "must have" films like Gladiator, LOTR, Star Wars etc.

I didn't have a very large collection of SD movies to begin with, so I will be converting all off my SD movies in to blu-rays.

Same here. I only had a hundred or so. I give my old ones to my brother. As it stands, I now have more blu movies than SD movies.

I am replacing them as well for the Blu-ray equivalents. I will give a few away and then take the rest to Movie Trading Company and use whatever credit they give me towards Blu-ray movies.

Well, I have a collection of over 800 DVDs, a good chunk of which are TV show boxed sets.

The idea of replacing every one of them with a Blu-Ray equivelant just seems overwhelming and too expensive.

I will likely rebuy major special effects movies, other movies that I just really, really love (I have rebought a few already). Not every movie that I have on DVD is worth rebuying on Blu-Ray, at least not for the prices that Blu-Rays are going for now (even with Bogos and all). I have some movies where while I still like them, but I bought them because they were new and current at the time of purchase, and I got caught up in the excitement of them being new movies at the time. But over time they haven't heald up as well for me over time, and while I don't plan to get rid of the DVD, paying a lot of money for an upgraded version isn't all that desirable since I probably wouldn't be willing to pay the price now that I did originally just to have the movie at all.

Perhaps when/if Blu-Ray ever penetrates the market to the point of movies being in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart, then I may consider replacing some of the less important movies.

As for my TV show boxed sets, I doubt I would replace many of them on Blu-Ray because of the cost. There's one or two series that I may consider (and that's dependant upon how much better they would actually look on BD compared to DVD), but that's assuming they ever even make it to Blu-Ray. I have a feeling that for TV shows, we will mostly be seeing current TV shows, and only older shows with REALLY strong followings. The problem with a lot of older, oscure shows is that they only have so much of an audience, and each additional season that comes out usually doesn't sell quite as well as the one that came out before it. In some cases, they don't even finish releasing the series on DVD (which can be annoying) because the cost doesn't justify the profit.

With that being the case, the number of people who would be willing to rebuy these things on Blu-Ray would be even less, so the odds of most of those shows seeing the light of day in the format is slim. Besides, most older shows wouldn't benefit all that greatly from the additional quality of Blu-Ray anyway, so it's not that big of a deal.

For some movies yes, but definitely not all. There are certain movies, that I think benefit from the higher res images, more importantly the HD tracks, but others most definitely don’t (at least not for $25+). Say American Pie is available on BLU (I know it isn’t yet). Is that one really worth the extra money? Will you really enjoy the movie that much more? Not me. As a result most comedies of that sort I will not ever upgrade. Now LOTR, Batman Begins, Matrix, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Alien(s), of course I will be upgrading.

Right now, my focus is on movies that I don't have.

However, if I enjoy a film enough, I might buy it in Blu-Ray.

Usually, though, I use the BOGOs to get the replacements -- I figured it's best that way to get one movie I didn't have, one movie I did have on DVD.

The only other time I might buy a Blu-Ray of a movie -- when I don't care enough about the film to buy it again or it's not in a BOGO -- is usually when the movie comes in a box set.

Otherwise, I'm saving my $30 per disc on movies not yet in my collection.

I'd love to replace them all, though. Just don't have those resources yet.

Replacing my favorite movies only. I've done too much blind buying with DVD and won't be replacing the stinkers.

Sold all my DVD's years ago. Finished selling them off in 06. After that I held of buying DVD's for a while then Blu came along. Been buying Blu since.

Occasionally I will pick up a dvd. However only if it's a set like Six Feet Under or OZ. A series or group of movies I know that are excellent/classics and won't mind double dipping. Plus they are nostalgic for me.

Considering at the rate they are producing Blu-ray discs it will take 20 to 30 years to be replace my collection.

So, no offense to the poller, this conversations is mute.

No one in the next 5 years will be able to replace their collection...maybe in 10...if blu is still around then.

Very selectively buying new movies, but I will replace with BD only those movies that I want to watch again and again-- that's my criterion. Why spend the money for BD if you will only watch a movie once and leave it on the shelf? Still waiting for many, many classics to become available-- I may have to wait a long time.

This is me, for the most part. I've been pretty selective with DVD's the past year or so, knowing I was going Blu or HD-DVD depending on where things went. Went Blu during the holiday sales, and have steadily been buying movies on Blu.

I've also got the 1100-1200+ size standard DVD collection (stopped counting this past summer) and will not rebuy every single film on Blu. My favorites, yes, but I really don't have a need for "The Big Chill" in HD for example. Of course, don't have a need for "The Big Chill" even on VHS, but that's besides the point.

Movies that aren't anamorphic or that I haven't found in widescreen will most likely be replaced, but something like "The Majestic", "American Pie films", or "L.A. Story" doesn't really need to be in High Def for me to enjoy them.

I have to really like the movie, or want to replace it for other reasons to rebuy in blu. Especially since I double dipped already with many of my movies to get a directors/extended/2-disc set when the original release was either a 'flipper' or was already lacking in features.

well i hope so anyway.

i have sold ALL my dvd's and i will never buy another only blu for me now.

I would like to replace all my favorites but I seem to be sticking to sales so I end up picking up movies I like in those sales. I actually thought about this the other day as I have about 100 blu-rays and when I checked against my current DVD collection (not that large about 100 as well) I had only replaced about 10 of them. Of course of the movies are not available on blu ray (bourne, gladiator, star wars, matrix etc...).
