Roger Ebert on Battle: Los Angeles:

Quote:
Young men: If you attend this crap with friends who admire it, tactfully inform them they are idiots. Young women: If your date likes this movie, tell him you’ve been thinking it over, and you think you should consider spending some time apart.

Ebert's review of Saraband has a terrific wrap-up:

Quote:
Whatever else he is telling us in "Saraband," Bergman is telling is that life will end on the terms with which we have lived it. If we are bitter now, we will not be victorious later; we will still be bitter. Here is a movie about people who have lived so long, hell has not been able to wait for them.

Off the top of my head:

Roger Ebert on The Brown Bunny
‘I will one day be thin but Vincent Gallo will always be the director of 'The Brown Bunny.'

For those unfamiliar, Vincent Gallo did not take Ebert’s criticism at all well.
This is the next paragraph in the article.
Faithful readers will know that I admire long takes, especially by Ozu, that I hunger for non-classical structure, and that I have absolutely nothing against sex in the cinema. In quoting my line about one day being thin, Chambers might in fairness have explained that I was responding to Gallo calling me a "fat pig" -- and, for that matter, since I made that statement I have lost 86 pounds and Gallo is indeed still the director of "The Brown Bunny."

One of my favorite Roger Ebert reviews of one of the worst films I ever had the misfortune to see in the theater, North (1994)...

"I hated this movie. Hated, hated, hated, hated, hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it."

You can read the whole review here....https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/north-1994

Roger Ebert Reviews 'Dairy of Forbidden Dreams',..so very true.

"If [a talented director has] made several good films, chances are that sooner or later someone will give him the money to make a supremely bad one. I wonder how much Carlo Ponti gave Roman Polanski to make Diary of Forbidden Dreams. Ten cents would have been excessive.”

For the John Wick honest trailer in regards to them talking about no quick cuts or shaky cam unlike when Liam Neeson hopped the fence in Taken using a ridiculously embarrassing amount of cuts and camera angles.

"How's Liam Neeson gonna hop a fence now people? That must've TAKEN them a while. Seriously though, that was like 14 different camera angles".

Haha! Busts me up every time I watch that trailer!

Ben Lyons, who got his job through nepotism and never saw a movie he couldn't give a quote for, got ripped a new one for what he had to say about I Am Legend.

Quote:
Still, the film features all the elements likely to endear it to a certain kind of cinephile. Physically repulsive actors engaging in strenuously unerotic sex? Check. Long takes in which the camera self-consciously retreats from its ostensible subject to take in a panoramic view of the surrounding world? But of course. Pointless, climactic act of sudden violence? Hey, it wouldn't be a pretentious art film without one.

It is like your worst nightmare happening on screen, so badly that you actually think, "I feel sorry for Guy Ritchie, because I can wake up tomorrow and think 'I didn't make that film', but he has to wake up tomorrow morning and think 'I made Revolver'."
