From the trailer, it definitely looks like a shot by shot remake almost, being a big fan of the original animated version.
That's true, 3 remakes in live action. At least that's better than if they were animated remakes, which would be too close visually. This is a drastic visual change as the main appeal, I guess for those who want a live action film over the animated one.

I hear what you're saying.
It's a sure bet to go with an already built in audience most times. With Lucasfilm and Marvel, these remakes will help fund those films to some extent, since the profits don't spill in all at once from each film before having to fund the next one. Probably one reason Disney can be so fickle with blu ray 3D regarding their spending budget and cutbacks.

Sequel of a remake. Sure, it'll count,

D'oh! There's also Lady and the Tramp on Disney+, so five.

They really don’t care about saturating the market...

Dumbo wasn’t very sucessful, and I bet that Maleficent 2 won’t fare much better than Alice 2. I just hope they don’t cancel The Little Mermaid. That’s the remake I really look forward to.

Cinemark has Lion King tickets on sale now and there seems to be at least 1 showing of it a day in XD 3D

Won't purchase my ticket just yet, gonna wait and see if Premiere will have this in IMAX 3D first, but I highly doubt it.

I would like to be wrong, but the 3D in Lion King's 3D trailers (2 now) looks mild most of the time, to the point a friend new to the 2nd Lion King 3D trailer that played before Toy Story 4 3D, after leaving the theater asked me, "Is Lion King going to be in 3D?" I didn't want to say that the trailer was in fact in 3D, since the question confirmed my point that the 3D is barely there most times, except for a few shots.

Even so, it's not a disaster, but for such a high profile film to punish the audience with mostly mild 3D as the trailers suggest, instead of rewarding the extra cost and glasses with stronger 3D as with recent Marvel 3D films, is a disappointment and does no favors for new potential 3D fans.

Even so, I definitely want to see this in theaters for the film mostly, though the animated classic will likely not be topped. The visuals look amazing though for lifelike CGI.

Now it seems the movie actually has variable aspect ratio!

"In 3D and 2D. Filmed with Arri Alexa IMAX cameras. Aspect ratio opened up to 1.43:1 for the musical sequences on select IMAX with Laser screens."

Interesting....When you click the links in the article it says that it is exclusive to the Melbourne IMAX.

3D is not as high as jungle book but is as good as the recent Pixar 3D films.
To get the best 3d experience see this movie In a large format screen. If any theatre is playing the movie in imax 3d go see it there.
As for the movie itself there is nothing at all new about the movie except for scars relationship with the hyenas a reworked version of be prepared and some new jokes. So unless you want to see the movie to see animals in real life doing what animated animals did in the original than only go if you love the story.

Very little pop outs the depth is pretty good as I said it’s like watching a Pixar film the 3d is of that level.
The screen is very blurry when trying to watch the film without glasses

Thanks for the early report.

So the depth is deep into the screen, but how are the 3D layering and the distances between them? As I saw in the trailers, unfortunately the dimension is very mild, but some shots look better.

But yeah, hopefully a blu ray 3D overseas.

It's not only Disney who is "creatively bankrupt." I'm sorry, but this entire generation of filmmakers and audiences is so enraptured with the cultural past that there is virtually NO originality on tap at all.... whether in film (continual remakes, comic book and otherwise) or in live theatre (putting many many films, musical and otherwise, onto the Broadway stage.

It's sad that if I go to NYC I only seek out revivals of dramatic classics like "All My Sons" and the upcoming Marisa Tomei starrer, "The Rose Tattoo," a Tennessee Williams classic. Hell, even Spielberg is getting into the act with an unnecessary remake of "West Side Story" (though his excellent casting of theatrical professionals make that one interesting.) And don't get me started on the Juke Box theatrical musicals. Gag!!!

Creativity is moving to streaming & episodic tv. There is a ton of original content at your fingertips via those venues and with a home cinema I enjoy them all cinematically!

Creativity isn’t moving, it’s just in short supply at the moment. Cinema has always gone through spells like this. Look at all the westerns that we’re churned out all those decades ago. This is no different. Someone will come along and blow our socks off with an original, mainstream blockbuster and the spark will be lit again.
