While I'll always tend to prefer the animated originals, the live action remakes are interesting to see from Disney. Aladdin and Lion King, being two of my favorites, in theaters in 2019. So I'll definitely check these out in 3D.

From what I saw, the animals look mostly convincing, but the movement, that will give away any animated flaws, compared to motion capture, which is in my view, the best way to recreate most live action characters that are made with Computers.

I'd agree with that for ape characters and those that share the basic human form (Gollum in LOTR, the Na'avi in Avatar, etc), but not necessarily for other animals/creatures. The animals in the "live action" Jungle Book were wholly believable to me as CGI creations, as was the tiger in Life of Pi. I think motion capture is an amazing tool, but I also think CG artistry on its own is underrated when it comes to creating creature performances. That's why I'm not convinced Andy Serkis's approach to those same Jungle Book animals in Mowgli (having actors physically play them) is going to give him any advantage over Disney's. The degree of anthropomorphization he aims for is going to be fascinating, though. They are, after all, talking animals. But if you want to make them photo-real, you're bound to a large extent by how we know those animals move and behave in real life.

Pixar flat-out won't use motion capture for its characters. But then again, they always (deliberately) stop short of rendering them photo-real.

I think Jon Favreau and his team did it just about perfectly in The Jungle Book, as I'm sure they have here, at least in terms of animation. Story-wise, I hope they stay fairly close to the cartoon, but not too close as to make this version seem irrelevant. As much as I love the original, I do think there's room for improvement. The trailer does exactly what I expected - "You've never seen it like this!" But much like The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast--which I thought more than justified their existence--I want to see what else this has in store.

It has nothing to do with his acting but when same-sex marriage was being introduced in the UK, Jeremy Irons made some comments about marrying your son which made him very unpopular with some people. He had to apologise and backtrack of course, but Hollywood remembers these things.

No, Hollywood has a terrible memory. He's kind of an exception to the 'business as usual' indifference.

The look of the animals and the animations look realistic in that newer trailer, so that's good to see they may have gotten that down nicely compared to some very animated animals that are supposed to be realistic in movement in prior films from other studios. There's a certain way animals move and if Disney doesn't capture it as closely as possible, then it doesn't look real, so from my first view of this trailer, looks pretty good so far.

No Jeremy Irons as Scar is a loss in my opinion, as his performance in the original was great and a big reason I enjoyed that film.

Liam Neeson as the Lion in Narnia, when he talks, it looks very animated and not real. Disney is going for realism with Lion King. What's interesting is seeing how these animals will express themselves while talking, since this 2nd Lion King trailer hardly reveals much lip syncing for the dialog. The movements of the head while talking will affect the realism if the animals suddenly start expressing like a human actor, nodding, eye's widening or squinting, eyebrows raising or frowning, smiling or not, instead of an animal's limited and natural expressions, since most real animals don't talk in human language (except for certain birds).

Just seems so... superfluous. I don't know, I'm sure it'll be visually impressive but I wish Disney wasn't so creatively bankrupt. Whilst these live action remakes keep making a fortune they'll keep churning them out though. Seems weird to have two in the same year though.

I'm sure the movie itself will be good, as it does, but yeah, I hope it's not a shot by shot edition.
