Paramount already has product ready to run out to the Stores. (All of the Blu-Ray Disks that they recalled when the Payoff went down!) However I believe I read that Universal was already looking into Blu-Ray replication facilities in the event they needed to get the ball rolling. It's not a question of 'if', it's just a question of 'When' do they start supporting Blu-Ray at this point.

I'm sure as soon as it is 'Legal' for them to do so there will be some sort of announcement. Followed shortly by actual Product on the shelf. Of course all of this means that the Blu-Ray production facilities have just had their workloads doubled in the Month of January alone! Once all the studios are on board officially, expect the sales of Blu-Ray Players and Media to skyrocket and therefore the price of both to start coming down.

I bet Paramount's comes rather soon. As Bill said, contractual obligations will hold Uni a little longer, but by that time all details will be smoothed out.

It makes sense for Paramount to announce sooner then Uni. They already had a blu plan in place originally, they just need to dust off the mothballs and update it. Plus, old stock can be used now.

It's obvious that Warner just didn't make this decision last min. Everyone thinks you can just snap your fingers and announce a decision like this without having a project management team in place.

Uni will take the longest to figure it out. They are starting from scratch.

You can announce it w/o the actual logistics in place as long as you throw out a future date that has some forethought. It has been known to happen in the corporate world.

PAramount could happen any day...WOW. Is this incredible or what? It is funny that Bill referred to drinking coffee in his post. We know a "person" that has been in touch with Bill

Great article by Bill. I can't wait to read about Paramount and Universal's Blu-ray plans.

New Line, HBO Turn Blu

Two more dominos have fallen.

A New Line Home Entertainment spokesman confirms reports that the mini-major is following distributor Warner Home Video’s lead in abandoning HD DVD and releasing all future next-generation titles only in the Blu-ray Disc format.

And HBO Video president Henry McGee says HBO, too, is “following the same policy as Warner Home Video.”
Warner last Friday stunned the industry on the eve of the Consumer Electronics Show when it announced that after May it will no longer support the HD DVD platform, which for nearly two years has been engaged in a bitter format war with Blu-ray Disc to become the high-definition disc standard.

Like Warner, New Line and HBO had been supporters of both formats, although New Line’s HD DVD releases lagged behind its standard DVD and Blu-ray releases. HBO has released season six of one of the most popular TV DVD sellers of all time, “The Sopranos,” on both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD.

I made this thread because I thought that there was no confirmation about HBO

but if this was posted or confirmed in other threads no need for this one

and yes, it's great news to have that official...

To my knowledge only New Line had confirmed after the initial Warner Announcement.

This is great news, I hope they pick up with their releases.

HBO is news. It was expected, but it is still news.

Earth to the Moon. Please, 4:3 if you can't do a proper 16:9 (the signature DVD is AWFUL).
