If IMDB is anything to go by, this will have a 4K DI?

If this is based off a 4K DI, then I must buy the UHD

The 4K UHD (non-HDR) extended trailer looks jaw dropping. Full of eye candy visuals which I haven't seen in a long time. I really hope the UHD with HDR is way better than it.

I think Furious 7 was as good as it could have been under the circumstances.

It still wasn't good, but that was mostly because of the circumstances. The direction was on point, so I'll be interested in catching this movie for sure.

According to IMDB there will be 92 minutes of IMAX footage. Is that true?

Quote:
1.43 : 1 (IMAX 70mm & Laser Versions: 92 Minutes)
1.90 : 1 (IMAX Version: 92 Minutes)
I might just visit the IMAX presentation then.

Wan confirmed that most of the movie opens up for IMAX. But I’m still skeptical that it’ll be 1.43:1 IMAX.

It's not going to be top tier, but I think it's going to very solid. 65% and the 2nd best DCEU film behind Wonder Woman.

The last movie from the Zack Snyder era this is sad coming from someone that loved the first two DCEU films.

I'd say this is more the first movie of the new era of DC movies. Snyder's era ended with Justice League. He may still be executive producer on Aquaman, but I'd hazard a guess his influence is non-existent on this and he's executive producer in name only, since he left DC when Aquaman had just begun filming. A movie is made three times; once in the writing, once in the filming and once in the editing, so anything Snyder contributed during the writing and pre-production phase could very easily not be in the finished film.

Yeah I’d say you’re right about that. I think it’s likely that Wan negotiated for creative control and the story of Snyder avoiding showing any of Atlantis to give Wan that freedom should signal that this is absolutely Wan’s vision.

If you have a 15/70 IMAX playing this near you, you’re gonna want to check it out. I’ve heard from a close source that the aspect ratio on this is opening up to 1.43:1.

The home video release will likely be in the range of 1.78:1 up to 1.90:1 depending on what they shot and protected for in the IMAX footage. So often the 1.43:1 stuff has a lot of dead space top and bottom and they would never use that IMAX ratio on widescreen home media as it doesn't translate well and they never have.

hope they end up going with that Indian Amazon art and not the art on this website that is shown for the US version at this point.

And yeah, hopefully it's a good.

I'm still annoyed they don't offer the 1.43:1 option. I mean for most films it's just a few minutes of footage, easy to fit onto discs as an alternate version branching. It's a shame to never get to see the full image again. The one 1.43:1 scene in TFA was amazing! And some of the Interstellar stuff, whatever the expanded was on that, it just looked and played so much better.

I mean what does it hurt or cost them to allow the option?

whoa 92 minutes in IMAX full ratio!
a mega pain that they got rid out the only suburban and easy to get to true IMAX in my area, but maybe this will be worth the mess and expense of going into the city just for a movie

This is such a digital movie through and through.

I’m finding it hard to believe Wan actually meant 1.43:1 when he said “full Imax.”

Even MI:Fallout was only 1.9:1 for its “Imax” scenes, at least that’s as far as I can tell having not actually seen it for myself. That didn’t stop people from mistaking it for the real thing.

1.43:1 on a 1.78:1 ratio TV does not look impressive at all for a modern film (an older film at 1.37:1 is a different matter since that would be its fixed OAR). That's why they don't do that for IMAX, which is a variable ratio format. It would also cause transitions from windowboxing to letterboxing on home video and that's an odd visual shift.
